Jurassic Forest is a 40-acre outdoor education center and prehistoric preservation site that features life-size, realistic models of multiple dinosaur species. The forest is dotted with these models and visitors can partake in guided tours, play mini-golf or engage in paleontological activities such as digging for dinosaur bones. It is an ideal place to take kids for a day out of the city where they can explore and learn about dinosaurs while enjoying the natural surroundings.

We haven't been to Jurassic Forest since covid hit, but we have always had a great time exploring and learning about all of the dinosaurs at this exhibit. It is a amazing place to take our kids for a day out of the city. It is our little escape into the forest. We decided to have our little outdoor outing on Saturday with our girls and they absolutely loved it. We had a little lunch there before our walk started, they have an amazing gift shop & fossil exhibit upon entering.

Nice place to go with the kids. Great walking trails. Stroller friendly. My boys had such a good time there running around looking at all the dinos. They also have a large sand pit area and a picnic area & Mini golf (I think you pay extra for that). We will definitely come back for another visit!

Lilia B — Google review

It is a good place for a visit with young kids, specially if they are interested in dinosaur. About 45mins driving from Edmonton South side to get there. We spent about just over an hour there to walked through the place, it was better than my expectation however, personally I think this is just a one time visit place only as the fee is slightly overpriced. There's a little shop inside where you could buy souvenir, I would suggest to bring your own food/snack & water as there's very little choice of snack available there.

Christina W — Google review

Amazing park for your little ones. It has a sandbox with the dig site as well as other interesting things. There is a pretty cool path to walk around, with two different trails. You can pull your kiddos on a pretty cool trolly that they will love. There are many different moving dinosaurs as well as a pretty cool gift shop. Most appropriate for ages two to preteen. But I found a pretty cool as well

Mr. V — Google review

Super cool place to bring the kids to. Lots of room to run along the boardwalk, and there are safely ropes to keep the dinosaurs off the boardwalk and the kids on it. Benches along the way to take a quick break and plenty of garbage cans. The place is well maintained. The kids did not want to leave even after 2 hours.

Emi A — Google review

Jurassic Forest had been in my mind for a long time. And finally, I made it just before they closed for the season. The weather was great, as 99% of the time we are out doors, seeing real life size dinosaurs, walking the trails, playing mini golf, or digging up bones in the playground. Although we did not do the minigolf, we had a splendid time. Both my kids loved the time at Jurassic Forest. Well maintained boardwalks, with garbage bins at every other turn. Spaces to rest during the trail as well as have a snack while resting. We rented one of the wagons, which was also a highlight of the walk. There are 2 trails, South and North, with 2 separate entrances and exits. The crowd was decent at 10:30am, the increased towards noon time. We stayed there for a good few hours, exploring the place. The entry fee and the wagon rental are reasonable priced. They have small picnic areas/benches around the playground and also have 2 bathrooms. Unfortunately, the outdoor snack bar had closed for the season. Thankfully, I had packed some snacks. Waiting for Spring/Summer when they open again. It's worth the visit.

Reshma H — Google review

It is a wonderful place to take kids on a cool nature walk. Golf was closed when we were there but trails were beautiful. Just wish it was bigger! If you go more than twice per year, the family pass if worth it and very affordable. Not sure how often they update attractions as we have only been for one summer so far.

Katherine L — Google review

Interesting place for kids. My son enjoyed the place as they have so many different types of dinosaurs and they actually move and have sound. We went on October 2022 as the fall was already started, the forest looked so beautiful as well as the trails. Must visit if your kid loves dinosaurs.

Harpreet K — Google review

Totally amazing place . As simple for kids to enjoy , walking takes us about 45 min since i have 4 kids and 1 toddler. Prices are responsible ( admission, souvenir ,treats, and food)Play zoon for kids is funTher is a shade place to eatPS VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE OFF FOR mosquitoes 🦟, we had an attack, sun block is optional but recommended

Soniorita S — Google review

Walking up to the gate of Jurassic Forest you get a jurassic park vibe . Tall fences to keep all the dinosaurs in. The main entrance has a 20 foot t rex skeleton that is amazing. Lots to see and do for the kids with the dig site located in the middle of the walking trails . Dino bones poking out of the sand for kids to explore . Trails are divided into north trail and south trail. Dinosaurs activated by motion sensors which makes them come alive with sound and movement. This nature walk into the past . 65 million year or more . Is educational and exciting for all ages . Highly recommended to see and experience.

Michael S — Google review

The admission feels a bit overpriced in my opinion, for a family of 5 visiting. They could definitely use an actual park, alongside the sand and dinosaurs for the kids to climb. The paths are in decent shape and we definitely enjoyed all of the dinosaurs, noises and movements. I suggest you come ready with big spray, as they still bothered us with it applied.

Krystal M — Google review

Great place to experience huge dinos, it was fun place, time well spent, we did the mini golf and totally took about 2 hours.South trail and North trail are worth a watch. Some activity would have been worth.Cafe is mostly unmanned and pretty dead on the options and availability of the menu.

Aakash S — Google review

A fun walk but not overly entertaining for small children. She was mostly just interested in the play area which wasn’t much different from any other park.

Tehya S — Google review

Fun dinosaur themed park set up like a zoo. Took my 6 year old nephew and grandma who is a year recovered from back surgery and it was just the right length and terrain for both. It was a fun afternoon for any dinosaur enthusiast, especially aged 2-7

Alexandria R — Google review

A wonderful place for kiddos who love dinos! We took our 2 year old and she had a blast. The entire place is stroller/wagon friendly with wooden pathways and lots of resting benches & garbage cans along the way. There is a bunch of parking, including handicap/disability spots. Inside there is a sand play park & mini golf (extra charge), along with the two different forest dino paths. Bring sunscreen and bug spray as the natural forest & wet lands are alive with them bugs. The concession area is decently priced for hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream, pizza, and drinks etc. Both the male & female bathrooms have change tables for infants. We ended up getting a season pass because we had a great time ... and if you go a minimum of 3 times a season then you break even. You can buy daily tickets online before hand, but it isn't necessary. We went for opening at 9am, which I would recommend as there is less direct sun & the bugs haven't fully woken up yet!

Nature & Parks

The Heritage Park is a large open air museum that showcases Western Canada's history from the 1860s to the 1950's. The park contains a variety of historically accurate reconstructed buildings, as well as live and working exhibits of classic cars, horses and carts. There are also plenty of attractions for children including a steam engine ride and a paddlewheel tour boat.

Definitely worth getting an annual pass for a repeated visit to this museum of historical memories. Watch out for ever ready guides who will give you a detailed run down of events that resulted in the space you occupy. From automobiles to Quilts. Remarkable occurrence throughout the ages

This is such a fun place to bring the family! There are so many things to do here. We rode the steam train, looked at the train cars, blacksmith shop, dentist office, rode on the rides, visited the gift shop, ate donuts and cotton candy. Then there was so much more we didn't get to do because we ran out of time. There are employees everywhere in costume to help out or talk about the different buildings and things to see. Everyone was so helpful and kind! The treats were yummy and reasonably priced. This time we were here with a school trip but we've been here before with just family. Love this place! Next time we'll visit the ranch and ride the boat.

Hadn't been here since I was a kid. Had an absolute blast as an adult. My work did a year end wrap up here and it was amazing! Complete with a scavenger hunt, prizes, and amazing I mean absolutely phenomenal food!I like how they keep their history up to date, add lots of interactive shows, and manage their displays really well. It's cool to see a bunch of Canadian history all in one place. I love that they share the history of every building.I will absolutely be returning soon!

Can't say enough good things about this place to be honest!! What an amazing way to spend an entire day. Please make sure you have ample time when you visit this place as there are just so many things to see. I went there about 1pm and hadn't explored half the park by 5pm.The train and buggy ride was really fun. The park is beautifully built with a lot of thought and attention to detail.I'm surely going to go back a second time to make sure I get to explore more of the park.

Such a great day out, even in the middle of winter! The buffet breakfast for 'Once Upon A Christmas' is simply the best buffet I've ever had, plus the staff are so friendly! Well worth the money. We've been going every year (except COVID in 2020 when it was closed) and we will continue to go as our family tradition.

I cannot recommend Heritage Park enough!! I'm a big fan of historic villages and this place checks every box for me. I brought my two nephews (4 and 2 years old) and they had the time of their life. Between riding the train, the amusem*nt rides, and watching the live demonstrations, we were hooked on everything! Heavily considering getting a membership because this place is just awesome!

My recent visit to the Western Canada History Park was truly remarkable. The park offers a captivating journey into the rich history and diverse cultural heritage of Western Canada. With interactive exhibits and engaging activities for all age groups, it ensures that every visitor can learn and enjoy themselves simultaneously. The knowledgeable and friendly staff were eager to share their passion for the region's past, making the experience even more memorable. The park's well-maintained grounds, coupled with stunning scenery, created the perfect backdrop for this historical adventure. I highly recommend the Western Canada History Park for anyone seeking to gain a deeper understanding of the region's history and culture.

An excellent tourist attraction for everyone particularly an exciting and exhilarating place for a family with children. The heritage park village, in the proximity to Bow river and a huge dock, consists of clean green lawns, paved walking trails, and attractive statues of various animals. It also has a train that take you around the park. There are lots of tables everywhere to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenic views and electrified visitors. Also there are shops and restaurants near the entrance where you can buy souvenirs or ice cream of your choice.I wish, the park has so much to offer, that it remained open until at least 8:00 pm in summer. Unfortunately, it closes at five, so the security guards start chasing people away from 4:30. Isn't 4:30 too early to wind up and send the enthusiastic people away in the long sunny days in Calgary?

Bharat S — Google review

Absolutely gorgeous. The amusem*nt park is fun for adults as well. I’d recommend wearing the comfiest shoes to walk around the park, and really get to see a lot more. If you enjoy boat rides, the steam boat is a must!

Always enjoy our trips to Heritage Park so much! The staff are always so friendly and kind, things are kept clean, and the grounds are gorgeous. If you think you might go a few times in the season it's worth getting a season pass! Lots to do so easy to have multiple visits and have each time feel different.

The Alberta Day (on 2/9/2023) celebration was held here! There was a drone show on 9pm. And throughout the day there’re a lot of booths such as live music show, kid corners, food trucks for you to enjoy. Besides, it’s a good opportunity for me to enter the heritage park for free! Normally there is a fee $30-40 for each entry.

Heritage Park in Calgary offers a nostalgic journey through Western Canada's history. With its meticulously preserved buildings, authentic artifacts, and costumed interpreters, the park immerses visitors in the past. From the steam train rides to the old-fashioned candy shops, every corner exudes charm and educational value. It's a delightful experience for families, history buffs, and anyone seeking a glimpse into Canada's rich heritage.

I'm not a huge fan of tourist destinations but was visiting Calgary to see my 5 year old grandchild so if course went along for the fun. If you live in Calgary and whether you have children or not this is a must. My daughter decided to apply what she paid for 4 of us that day to a yearly pass as we were leaving. So worth it! It's pricey but once you get inside everything except food is free. In summer bring a picnic as the selection of grab and go food isn't great. They do have some dine-in restaurants but we thought too much time would be wasted with a 5 year old. The small midway is delightful with 100 year old rides with fantastic story boards. After spending 4+ hours there I was ready to go back the next day to explore more. Well done Heritage Park!

Carol P — Google review

We have the best experience exploring the park. We rode the train to go around and eat ice cream and some other sweet staff they have. It was a great fresh air visiting the farm yard and the little town around. The vintage cars are cool as well.

Great place for family and kids. It has lot of rides for all ages. The building looks very genuine. The staffs are very helpful. I would recommend everyone to visit especially people living in Calgary. Annual subscription fee is reasonable.

What a place where you really get into the past! You can feel the real Wild West and take a ride on an old train. All vintage equipment works and is in excellent condition. There's also an amazing exhibition of vintage cars that you won't see anywhere else!

It's an incredible place not to be missed on your visit to Calgary. The area has been kept like it jade been in the early 20th century and certain things have been added to raise the atmosphere of that period. You can easily spend the future day in the village as the place is huge. There is a train going around the village that you should not miss. Also, the half-hour horse ride where you will get to know the details of the place from the guide is very interesting.Make sure that you go here on a sunny day as you will be walking a lot outside.

We visited during a weekday at the end of the season, when it was closed. This means we missed out on some of the immersion into history. Special arranges had been made for our group of 20 from Arizona! Thank you! The Guide was fantastic! She was enthusiastic, well versed in all of the details. This is a great place for imagining history!

Charles E — Google review

The park is an awesome idea, combining nice strolls in the open air, with historical exhibits, preserved or restored. Their summer and xmas markets are less busy than others around the city and its cool to hunt down all the locations throughout the park. the bakery is always busy, with long lines... they should really get extra staff and better distribution in nearby cafes and restaurants.

Radu L — Google review

Most of the park was closed by the time I arrived so I explored the lake and walked the trail to see if I could catch a good sunset which never came 🙃 I drove 6.5 hours the day before so needed a more low key day. The next time I am in the area, I definitely want to check it out when it's open. It looks like a pretty cool spot. There was clear bottom kayaks out in the water from a tour company also.

A rare Canadian gas-powered motorised bicycle, which cost twice the price of a standard bicycle and retailed for $96 (back in 1949). Amazing 🚲to see modern-day eBikes having similar features. We also loved all the many antique vehicles in the Gasoline Alley Museum 💖

This place is huge- it could easily fill an entire day with everything from automobile collections, pioneer life, and coal mining as well as a really well done old-fashioned midway. I enjoyed the fact everything was included in the admission. We also ate at a really nice restaurant there- the food was perfect. And if you want to ride the train, a tractor pulled cart or horse pulled carriage you are in luck! Please like this review to help me justify my senseless hobby of writing them for every place I have ever visited ;)

Observation Decks & Towers

A free standing viewing tower in Calgary, Alberta with panoramic views of the city below and beyond. The tower is also home to a revolving restaurant that enables tourists to enjoy the thrilling sensation of being 191 meters above the city.

The Calgary Tower is a big structure. It was also an incredible experience to be on the top floor of this structure. From the top floor, we have a 360-degree view of the city. We can also see the nearest towering skyscraper. From the gallery, this is such a lovely scene. I would advise others to go see this tower.

Mihir P — Google review

Must see place when you are in Calgary. Easy to find it in the center, no need to buy tickets in advance - you can make it here (payment with cash or card). Going up by the elevator and then - amazing picturesque view to the entire city!We went there in the evening close to sunset, so we were able to make amazing photos with the sunset from different sides.Glass floor may seem to be kinda tension from the beginning but after all - isn’t it exciting to see the city under your feet? 😃There is short movie about the construction of the tower and Alberta in general. Take time to watch it - useful information. There is restaurant here but it needs reservation (often crowded). I believe restaurant visitors can go to the tower for free - there is separate entrance for them. There is souvenir shop at the ground floor. Somehow high prices but worth looking.Take a look at the walls as well - there is information about different towers in the world.

We enjoyed our lunch at Sky 360, which is a rotating restaurant. While we enjoyed great food, we were amused by the view of the surroundings at the height of about 200 meters. As the view is panoramic, we did not go to the observation deck and avoid paying $21 admission fees. If you really want to go, you will save 55% of admission charges if you spent $20 or more in Sky 360.

Priscilla W — Google review

Nice experience. It doesn't take too long to see it and you can go in with almost no wait. The views are great and there's a short video on the construction and modifications that give a little history to the tower. All and all pretty cool spot for photos, not very many info things provided up there would be nice to learn or see more about the city we are overlooking.

I didn't go to the restaurant; however, I went to the top to visit the Observation Deck. It's such an amazing view the one you get from there. Lots of people you will see there as well.I didn't took me long to get to the top of the tower. Maybe because I didn't go on busy days.Staff is very attentive and kind like most Canadians ;)

What an amazing view !!!This place is a must visit and good for staying an hour or two. It has paid parking space nearby and entry tickets are available at counter in gift shop and online as well. At the observation deck you will also find a theater room, restroom and drinking water.

Very beautiful place, enjoyable & so lovely.Reservations are not recommended.. just visit and buy own tickets. Because after purchasing online you might not be receiving confirmation message due to server detect lead some hassle on checking nonetheless. So better just go and buy your tickets accordingly. You can take some drinks/ snacks with you in case the skydeck restaurant is closed.A particularly sophisticated trip to this birds eye view!

I have been to many observation towers around the world (Japan, Toronto, Malaysia, South Korea, etc.) I gave the Calgary Tower a try.A ticket costs $22.I think about 45 minutes is all you need on the observation deck. They have a water fountain on the observation deck too.The area has a brief video and some facts shown around the room.It is also the place where you can catch a bus to and from the airport which makes a day trip super convenient. The Calgary Tower reminds me of the same quality as KL Tower in Malaysia. They could do more with it.

This is a must see spot in Calgary. It has fantastic views of the city. There are signs that post to important landmarks in the city that can guide your experience in Calgary. There is a short film that you can watch that gives the history of the tower. The tickets are $21 and it is absolutely worth it for the view alone.

The Calgary Tower is one of the most iconic and historic buildings of downtown Calgary. It has a revolving restaurant and an an observation deck on top. We did not try the restaurant as reservation is required. The views are expansive and amazing! Walking over the glass floor was also thrilling! All the staff members were also friendly and always ready to help you out with taking your photos. I gave it four stars because the tickets were a bit pricey.

On my first visit to Calgary, I visited this tower and I loved the view. With a self guided tour, I learnt a lot about the city. I will recommend going during Spring or Fall as there were no lines and it was not crowded. I visited on a weekday in October and I had fun. Please get your tickets online to save time. The lights come on at night so while you take a stroll downtown, the backdrop of the tower is beautiful.

Awesome experience, my first time into a tower in North America. The best part was the glass floor lookout in the northern side. I have vertigo so was scared a lot at beginning but eventually had a great time there.

Sayoni D — Google review

The tower is definitely a worth while experience. I have gone up three times and it was fun, though there is not a lot to it. If you don't mind heights, you can stand on the glass floor or walk around the building and enjoy the incredible 360° views.

Hannah D — Google review

I love visiting observation decks of towers/skyscrapers, so Calgary Tower was on my must-visit list during my recent half-day stopover in the city. Although it is dwarfed by recent skyscrapers, it is still an iconic structure! I have to give a big kudos to the staff member working at the elevator foyer on the ground floor, welcoming and saying goodbye to visitors (Feb 25, afternoon) - she was so enthusiastic for what seemed like a repetitive job!The observation deck itself was clean, well-maintained, and seemed to be recently renovated. I visited on a clear day and the view was quite nice. There is a glass floor, clear panels describing the landmarks that you could see out of the windows, interesting information around the inner walls, and a short film about the tower's construction/history. There is a water fountain and seating to just take in the view. However, the stairs to the second floor are blocked. Hope they can find another use for that space.I thought it was interesting that the tower was built for the purpose of commemorating Canada's centennial year of 1967 (although it was completed in 1968), quite a few years before CN Tower was built. I wonder if the tower would have been designed to be much taller had it been the reverse order. We'll never know!

The Calgary Tower is an iconic landmark in the heart of the city that offers an unforgettable experience with its panoramic views of Calgary and the surrounding Rocky Mountains. Located in downtown Calgary, the tower features a revolving restaurant, observation deck, and glass floor that provides a thrilling view of the city below.Entering the tower, visitors are quickly ushered to the high-speed elevator that takes them up to the observation deck in a matter of seconds. The view from the top is awe-inspiring, with a 360-degree view that encompasses the entire city and its stunning skyline. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer a clear and unobstructed view of Calgary's sprawling landscape, including major landmarks such as the famous Canadian Rockies.Visitors can enjoy a full 60-minute rotation of the restaurant, which is a great way to take in both the view and the fine dining experience. The food here is top-notch, and the service is excellent, making it one of the most sought-after dining experiences in the city. The glass floor on the observation deck at the Calgary Tower is a unique and thrilling attraction that challenges visitors to face their fear of heights. Walking on the glass floor is an exciting experience that provides a bird's-eye view of the streets, crowds, and bustling city below. Though a bit scary at first, it is a true test of bravery, and the adrenaline rush is well worth the thrilling experience.Overall, the Calgary Tower is a highlight of the city and a must-visit attraction for anyone exploring Calgary. With its breathtaking views, exciting glass floor, and top-notch dining, it's a must-see for both visitors and locals alike. Its a great place to spend a few hours and is suitable for visitors of all ages!

My son and i had a great time here. The glass floor is one of the best parts of the whole thing. I would definitely recommend eating in Sky 360 as well. The restaurant slowly turns while you eat. One revolution per hour. Such amazing views from all angles.

I visited the Calgary Tower and it was an exceptional experience! It made me honestly feel like going on all the towers across the world. All other towers around the world were beautiful displayed with their location, build cost, etc. I loved the experience completely and would highly recommend. The wait time was super short, and the attendants were also nice and professional!

It's definitely worth seeing (one of the attractions I would add to the must-do list if visiting Calgary). Very breathtaking views, glass floor (part of it, but still scary), toilet upstairs as well (comfortable when you are with a stroller). Byw, there are no toilets downstairs in the building. We wanted to visit a restaurant as well (it is possible to do in Vancouver's tower upstairs), but without reservation, it was impossible even if it was 1 or 2 p.m. hightly recommended.

Would recommend to anyone who has some spare time when in Calgary. Beautiful views of the city, railway and mountains with 360 degree views. It is quite expensive at $23 for an adult though!

Great experience and well worth the fee. You get to truly see all the city and get a different perspective.Take the time to read the signage and download the app, it’s interesting to see all the knooks and spaces you miss zooming through traffic. We found a bunch of places not on our radar to explore in Calgary from our visit here

Visiting the Calgary Tower was a highlight of our trip! The view from the top is truly spectacular, offering a stunning panorama of the city and distant mountains. There's plenty of interesting information available about the sights you're seeing, which adds a nice educational touch to the visit. While our stop was quite brief, it was very reminiscent of the experience at the CN Tower. Great for a quick visit if you're looking to take in some breathtaking views and learn a bit about Calgary's skyline.

Nicholas B — Google review

Some staff were very friendly, others very flat affect.Once your at the top, the views were beautiful. It was fun standing on the glass floor. They had small plaques where they pointed out what buildings we were looking at which was informative.Besides looking outside, there was nothing else to do.I found it a bit pricey.

Anita — Google review

Not that tall compared to many other buildings even in the area, while only slightly taller than the space needle and a third of the height of the CN Tower. It is a nice place to go though as it has very nice views, and a very reasonable price. It's worth stopping at.

Fun way to see the city. Quick elevator ride up. Cool glass floor experience (which made me feel a little dizzy at first). Beautiful views of the city. It was a cloudy, rainy day when we visited, I can only imagine how beautiful it would have been with a sunny day!

Rodeo

Events

The Calgary Stampede is an annual rodeo that features cowboy-style entertainment and exhibits. It is a popular event with over a million people attending each year.

We went to the Stampede last summer (2021) and we had an Amazing time! I'll start with the Fireworks...the amazing Fireworks, just, when we thought the fireworks were over...they would start again :) Definitely the most wonderful fireworks display I'd ever seen. The show itself was very organized, even, with such a large area, we never really felt lost because of the abundance of information available. Well done Stampede organizers.

Lenny V — Google review

Having lived out here for 12 years I’ve only been to Stampede twice, with last week on Friday parade day being one of those. After two long years of the pandemic, it was nice to feel the energy and the excitement, and the rhythm of the music at the stampede grounds. It can get overly crowded for sure and unfortunately there’s always the ones that don’t know how to behave properly, but mostly overall people were having a good time. That’s what it should be about. I have to leave one star off because I don’t agree with the use of animals in entertainment, and inevitably there are always animals that get killed at this event which is an aspect I detest.

Darryl S — Google review

Such a fun event! They have everything you can think of when it comes to a rodeo and a carnival! Definitely a great way to get your steps in and have some fun fair food too!

Kelly D — Google review

So much fun for people of all ages! The rides are great fun. Food is delicious, and a huge variety. You could spend so much time here. Nashville North was great for dancing with friends! Musical acts are pretty popular as well. Saw Sheryl Crow a few years back for free. Such an amazing memory! Hoping to make it back here again in the future.

AshTravels — Google review

We didn't attend any of the main shows but we explored the other attractions and the food. It was loads of fun! After two years of pandemic isolation, it was really nice to be in this festive atmosphere surrounded by people enjoying themselves. One of the main highlights was the Elbow River Camp of the Indigenous people of the region. It was absolutely fantastic! We attended a dance performance there and at the same time learned more about their culture, traditions, and ceremonies. We also ate bannock with jam, which is a heavy but tasty snack. Definitely going to come back again next year!

L E — Google review

Very nice, this was my first rodeo, it will definitely not be my last. I had a really good time in spite of people asking to be let out- back in- let out- back in-.... If you know you are going to have to keep moving you should get an outside seat. Smh

One must go to this stampede at least once if not every time. My favourite were the motorcycle stunts featured on a particular evening that I could not shoot but it was thrilling. Display by the Canadian army is also my favourite. There is something for everyone. Food , rides, children rides, face painting, betting, gambling, clubbing , alcohol, performing arts, live music and the high list spectacular fireworks. It’s very very busy during Calgary stampede but the joy is sometimes in the crowd n rush. Still the management of such a massive scale event is great. Everything flows smoothly. Buy tickets at the gate or online and you are zoomed into the GM huge grounds . Oh I forgot to mention the horse show. I missed it but I was happy just to see the stables. Must go place

MANBIR ( — Google review

Aggi days. So many displays and things to see. Not as many animals but still enough variety. Excellent organization of the free event. Lots of volunteers. Majority of them very engaging. Thankyou!

Jackie P — Google review

2023 Calgary Stampede, first impressions is that the show has a lot going on and a lot of people attending. You just got to find your fun among it all. I would recommend the evening show on the first day.

Melanie K — Google review

Took in the 2023 Rodeo finals from the infield. It was an awesome show of dedication. The crowd was invested and the competition was fierce.Near perfect performances created champions that the crowd roared for.The midway is always a gong show. Crazy numbers of people. All the lineups you could ever want to wait in. And the food, you'll be glad you tried it but wish you didn't.The livestock and the shows and everything that stampede brings to Calgary is world class. And the co*ke stage is always a must.Took in Mother Mother this year and it was just an awesome show.Plenty of people hate on the Stampede because it makes the city a little crazy with traffic, people and events, but it's really truly something to experience.

Andrew ( — Google review

The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth and rightly so lives up to its expectations each & every year we visit this place! One cannot get enough of the place in a day. Wish it would last more than 10 days in a year!On average 1.0M people visit the event each year from as far as Far East, Middle East, Europe and United States and from other parts of our great country Canada 🇨🇦

Dilawer K — Google review

Rodeo was alot of fun! Going as a family you need 2 days at the stampede to really enjoy everything the park has to offer. ( rides, agriculture arena, dog show and entertainment, food, rodeo, fireworks, evening shows)We had a great time and will be back next year!** Buy the day pass not stamps!! or rides will cost you a fortune.

Clori S — Google review

Five stars for the rodeo! Absolutely fantastic! The rest....the kids entertainment is crammed in a little corner. So many children and parents waiting to see Paw Patrol and they have the tiniest little stage and seating area. They can't join in or even see half the time. Waited 1.5 hours to watch a 20 minute show because last year our son was at the back of a huge crowd and could not see a thing.Doesn't really feel like a celebration of western culture, just a 10 day fancy dress party aimed at people that will spend a ton of money on alcohol. Not really family friendly at all (except for kids day (morning) which is really good).I will state again though that the rodeo is fab! Wish we didn't have to go through the rowdy, drunken crowds to get out of the stampede grounds though and back to our vehicle.

Yes. So happy we were fortunate to attend the Stampede. After a 17 year gap, we decided to check out the Calgary Stampede - we always enjoy watching coverage on TV but it’s fun to walk the midway and grounds and see live shows. The daily schedule helped us to plan the day and we lucked out by getting in free before 11:00am - not sure why but 🤠. We enjoyed: the RCMP Musical Ride - a proud Canadian tradition and celebration of 150 years of service; the illusionist, Stampede Show Riders, River Camp village with Indigenous dancers, market place displays, animal displays, show band, and Canine Stars. Searching for gluten free options was a bit of a chore but we found some poutine, dole whip and caramel apples. 😋see pictures. We ended our day with a T&S concert at the Coca Cola stage which is an amazing new-and-improved outdoor stage venue. We are 50+ so didn’t partake in rides or much after 10:30 but after 12 hours we had a full day!

Laurie M — Google review

I just did a quick drive by to check out the outside after doing the Calgary Tower tour. I came in August so missed the Big Rodeo in July. I might have to come back in July one year to check it out.

Jewels L — Google review

One and only of its kind in entire North America if I am not wrong. You got food, rides, cultural activities, music and what not. Remember it is for 10 days only so make sure you visit it at least once since it is worth it.I bought a ticket online and it was 90 bucks worth.

Dhruv G — Google review

We were glad we went, and a two day visit was enough! One giant theme park, which is great for the kids, and also so many food and drinks vendors. It seems to be about, sell, sell, sell, rather than about conservation, compassion, and preservation of tradition. However, saying all of that, it is the biggest outdoor show we've ever been to...

Zoo

Outdoor Activities

The Calgary Zoo is a large zoo located in the heart of the city. It is home to a variety of animals, including some endangered and rare species. The zoo also has a variety of play areas for children, as well as keeper talks throughout the day. Springtime is a popular time to visit because new animals are born!

Best place to spend a day inside the city. I liked watching penguins the most. It was like you are in a entirely different world. Watching bear accumulating leaves for making himself warm was an encouraging experience. Lions were all sleeping but it was very near to the watch glass as it was just centimeters apart. Watching gorillas playing each other was another wonderful experience. The tropical climate setting for the tropical animals is really amazing. Overall really nice experience 😎

Cherry V — Google review

Fantastic place to spend some beautiful times with family and see varieties of animals. They divided the zoo in different areas: Canadian, African, Asian, Prehistoric (which is really nice) based on the animal categories. Specially, the penguin place is really awesome. African rain forest is also great. Those who are interested in dinosaurs, the Prehistoric area is a must visit. Ample of parking on the north and west side of the zoo. The north parking lot is divided into three lots: A, B, and C. I think lot B is closest to the entrance. However, the north lot has a fixed daily rate of CAD 12 (which is good for people who plan to spend whole day, might not worth for people who spend only few hours). The west lot charges hourly rate, which might be good for people for short visit.

Khaled H — Google review

This was a really enjoyable experience. Great habitats for all the different animals, and a great variety. The gardens and butterfly house were exceptional too. We would have paid to see them on their own. So much shade, plenty of places to eat or picnic, many playgrounds and kid friendly exhibits. We caught the train from downtown. Very easy and quick.

John M — Google review

Best zoo in Canada 🇨🇦!!!Superbly variety of special animals in this zoo, it’s really worth to visit at least once. 👌Entry ticket 🎟️ charges is $35 per person. Parking 🅿️ 🚙 charge is $13 for whole day.Penguins 🐧 section is the best one ☝️Usually 4-5 hrs can be spent here but full day is preferable. My kid really like it.It’s increasing the feather in the crown of Calgary in terms of tourism sector. 👍

Viralkumar M — Google review

This is a well laid out zoo. I love the way the animals are grouped and the interior habitats for some animals. Some habitats made it harder to see the animals if they were not near a fence, but overall, we saw most of the exhibits, including some weird ones we've not seen in other zoos. The only negative was having to pay $13 for parking. A bit rich on top of the entry fee. The penguin exhibit was fabulous. One of the best I've seen. I really wanted to see a big male moose but could only find a sleeping lady moose, sadly. Otherwise, a perfect day at the zoo.

Karin H — Google review

We really enjoyed the walk through. I feel the animals are a little laid back at this time of year. Though it was reasonably quiet still on a busy day. The parks are a fun time for the kids. When you decide to take a leisurely stroll it works well. Grateful we had the opportunity to take the kids this year. :)

Teri-Lee M — Google review

Every year I make sure I get to come to this great zoo. It's well-maintained, very clean and organized. This is great for adults especially for kids. You will learn a lot. Having fun while learning. So many varieties of animals that are being showcased here. I always have fun whenever I come here.

Blik P — Google review

A really amazing place to bring kids and enjoy the outing. The zoo is kept clean and well maintained. Volunteers help guide to near exhibits and explore zoos in the best possible way. Don't hesitate to ask them. Cafe options are limited but they do serve good food. Overall we enjoyed it a lot and will definitely revisit

Omkar K — Google review

This zoo is wonderful. It is very large. We walked so much. The animals have lots of space and there are many zoo keepers and volunteers around to make sure the animals are taken care of. There are also additional things to manage foot traffic and crowds.

Melissa C — Google review

Beautiful place, it will be great to have more spaces for animals. Like open areas for Africa. The penguins were great! The dinosaurs are great! They are renovating the Canadian part. Now… all the workers have megaphones and sometimes they are using them too much. Things that they can tell you personally they use de megaphone. I put 4 stars because of this. Thanks!

Irene S — Google review

Super fun for both kids and adults. The animals are well taken care of. My favourite part was the butterfly enclosure! There were so many gorgeous butterflies all throughout the conservatory garden ranging from different stages of life.I'd highly recommend visiting on a weekday early in the morning if you're not a fan of crowds, as this place gets extremely packed super fast.

Millie M — Google review

It was a wonderful zoo. We really loved the penguins... We had a great time. Animals were active. So much to see and do. The dinosaur exhibit is fantastic. The kids LOVE it. Reasonably priced. Lots of parking. Clean restrooms. Highly recommend the Calgary Zoo. Great way to spend the day... Enjoying nature. No matter how many times I see the animals, I marvel at their beauty, ability, and strength...

DARLENE L — Google review

I grew up going to the zoo with my grandparents and family.Over 15 years since I've been and the charm hasn't changed at all. All the expansions and additional exhibits are amazing, interactive and informative.Having staff at each exhibit helps keep the flow of strollers moving ;) (I was a part of that parade)But the staff are also keen to answer questions and engage with visitors.Lots of additional activities to do as well. Ferris wheel, parks and of course the beautiful green spaces and gardens. Will be back soon!

Nik — Google review

Unfortunately many exhibits and buildings are closed due to Avian flu precautions. This was a true lazy Sunday. Not many animals moving around. Through no fault of the zoo itself, this was a lackluster experience. Any area with birds were closed. Gorilla and Otter pavilions closed. It's been years since I had been to this zoo and if seemed that many animals were gone and it was not as great as I remembered. This zoo used to rival Toronto zoo for the overall experience. It has Fallen backwards in recent years.

Andrew S — Google review

Best place to spend a day inside the city. I liked watching penguins , Alpaca lions and many more animals the most. It was like you are in a entirely different world. Watching bear accumulating leaves for making himself warm was an encouraging experience. Lions were all sleeping but nice. Some Sparrows 😍actually it was my awesome trip with my family ❤️parking lot also wider.

Mann — Google review

Those who are visiting for the very first time please be aware that this is going to hurt your legs a lot..😃 The area is large and you have to walk around especially if you have kids with you please take stroller with you (You gonna need it) If you have old age company plz take accessibility cart so they can enjoy too!!Now once you are in the zoo you will enjoy every minute here. Zoo keepers are there to help you with the path to follow but still having a map with you is a must. Enjoy nature and the animals. Keep an umbrella to protect against the sun ☀️.. Overall my experience was amazing. I was not even able to complete the first section of Africa Safari. I will visit again.

Shree ( — Google review

What a amazing way to spend a day!! 😍 This place is a must visit for any and everyone. The zoo was beautiful with lots of animals. The Dorothy garden was especially very beautiful. Make sure you have an entire day to spend here as the zoo is pretty big with lots of walking. We went there at 9am in the morning on Heritage day and it was just beginning to get crowded, so we were able to view a lot the animals relatively without much crowds. But by the time it was mid day there were a lot more people there, so make sure you plan accordingly.Overall this was an amazing experience and I am waiting to go back here once again.

Akshay P — Google review

One of the best places to visit in the city, and easily one of the premier zoos in North America ( I would know, I have visited more than 50 of them.)Lots of parking, great membership value, excellent food/dining options, huge repeatability factor with a different and new experience each time. There are parts that are certainly under utilized and feeling aged/run down (namely as of Nov 2023 the Asia section), and the dinosaur area seems like a weird space filler that could be better served with real animals, but other regions are stellar. The 2 big Africa Houses are simply fantastic, as is the penguin house, and the brilliant Wild Canada section. At the time of writing this review, there will even be polar bears in just two weeks. In short, this zoo is great all year around, for all ages, and I’d highly recommend visiting

Steven B — Google review

Animals look good, zoo looks clean. Sad that Dino world was closed. We sow a lot of animals, they seem happy. Recommend to visit greenhouse with butterflies. Very beautiful! Also, buy tickets in advance, because it’s definitely cheaper and faster. Ticket costs 37$, but only it’s possible to buy for 30$ (for weekdays)

Kateryna N — Google review

I love what they have done to the zoo, expanding the outdoor wild animal area with a beautiful large area for the polar bears, and a beautiful large indoor and out for the different penguins. There is a separate light show after 5 pm this time of year for Christmas that looked like it would have been beautiful to see if I had more time.I definitely would purchase a year pass if I lived here. All construction is completed and the garden areas are now just two instead of the 4 or 5 areas they used to have.

sherry — Google review

I had the pleasure of visiting this zoo after attending a conference held there, and it was truly an enriching experience. It's an ideal weekend destination in Calgary and a must-see for visitors. The tropical garden, flamingos, and Mr. Hippo were personal highlights for me. Depending on the season, they offer various events, and you can even book a restaurant for added convenience.

Shay — Google review

We had a great time visiting the Calgary Zoo! It's a fantastic place for a half-day family adventure. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, making our experience even more enjoyable. The animals, especially the gorillas, were a highlight and seemed very well cared for. However, we were a bit disappointed that the penguin exhibit and the lemur experience were closed during our visit, as we were really looking forward to those attractions. Despite this, the zoo offers a lot to see and do, and it's still worth a visit for anyone wanting to spend some quality time with nature and wildlife.

Nicholas B — Google review

My experience at the Calgary Zoo was nothing short of fantastic. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a family looking for a fun day out, or simply curious about the world's diverse wildlife, the Calgary Zoo offers something for everyone. I highly recommend adding it to your list of must-visit attractions in Calgary.

Balwinder S — Google review

This is one of the best zoos I have been to. All of the animals looked very healthy and had outstanding enclosures. Most of the animals were in their regular enclosures, even in March. The land of lemurs was unfortunately closed due to the cold weather. The indoor portions of the zoo were very cool (or should I say hot) and immersed us in the natural environment of the animals. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I will definitely be visiting again.

Cameron M — Google review

My partner and I visited to see the Polar Bears and also enjoy the Christmas lights. It was as calm as usual though more exciting this time around with new animals. I loved the Mountain Goat (they sure looked stubborn as hell)😊Unfortunately there wasn't anything much to see in the Asian axis and I wonder what the space is actually for.Overall, it's great for anyone seeking to refresh by walking and learning a bit more about the wonderful creatures we have around us.

Michelle ( — Google review

My wife and I have had longtime membership to this excellent venue. We see zoo's in every city and country that we visit. Calgary is amongst the very best. Our last visit inspired a month trip to Madagascar 🇲🇬 where we saw many Lemur species and chameleon that are unique to this amazing country. I've selected a few of our Madagascar pictures. Come to the zoo to see their Lemurs and animals from around the world. It is a great place for parents and kids of all ages. I love what I call - the daily stroller brigade.

Robert S — Google review

My love for animals takes me to popular zoo visits very often 🤩 Honestly, not a huge supporter of caging the wildlife but they are good source of inspiration, information and entertainment for all ages. Canada’s second largest animal zoo was quite enjoyable! Despite the cold late December visit, zoo attracted 8k visitors which is a popular summer number! My favorites were penguins, chimpanzees, polar bear, tiger and Hippo 😍 the zoo has more than 200 species and they are very well kept.Didn’t realize how I spent the whole day visiting variety of animals, aviaries and butterfly sanctuary. Grabbed a quick snack at the zoo cafeteria (their revenue supports the zoo animals 🙏) and strolled through whole zoo in Christmas lights and decorations for another couple hours! Mesmerized by lightning and music, didn’t feel an inch of cold! Could also plan for a bubble/glass gazebo dinner in advance for a romantic dinner ✨A Must to do list in Calgary and earn your share of memories ☺️👍

Roohani S — Google review

We got a lot of snow today in Calgary and the zoo was a good choice for entertainment. We read it is the second largest zoo in Canada. We went to see the polar bears and we were not disappointed. What majestic creatures. A nicely laid out zoo with clear signage in the zoo itself. We got a membership each and have been back twice, and still haven't seen the whole zoo. The membership is a great value and the zoo itself is excellent.

No U — Google review

So it's a good zoo. It's got many animals that all look well cared for. They look like they really try their best with them and that to me is paramount when visiting a zoo or Aquarium. I downgraded the rating because it's really expensive in my opinion. Although much of the exhibit isn't running or viewable at this time of year. It makes sense why it's not operating as it's winter and cold. It happened to be warm when we went. We spent 4 hours there and still didn't get through everything though. It is a large zoo. You can save a couple dollars if you buy online and in advance.

Julie M — Google review

Had a great time at the Calgary Zoo with my girlfriend! The variety of exhibits ensures there's something for everyone, and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the diverse wildlife. My girlfriend loved the hippos, and personally, I was charmed by the adorable red pandas. We easily spent two and a half hours immersed in the fascinating displays. Looking forward to our next visit; the Calgary Zoo is definitely worth returning to for a fun and educational experience! I definitely recommend buying tickets online in advance as you can save some money on the price of admission.

Keith C — Google review

Calgary Zoo is amazing! The animals looked well care for. The staff is well informed and welcoming. It's nice, clean, estethically pleasing. Tons of attractions. 4 hours was not enough to see everything.Great experience for the whole family.

Points of Interest & Landmarks

Okotoks Erratic, located in the town of Okotoks, is a massive glacial boulder that weighs around 16,500 tonnes and stands at 9 meters tall. It is believed to have been left by glacial activity thousands of years ago and is considered a remarkable sight and an iconic landmark of Okotoks. The rock landed in its current location during a rockslide between 10,000 to 30,000 years ago.

Good pit stop place. Nice short walk around an impressive rock which seems very out of place at first, until you read the fascinating story of how it arrived from the Jasper area thousands of years ago. Washrooms are clean.

Kelly — Google review

Small walk; beautiful views; unique history. It’s a nice spot for a quick walk, or a picnic. Fun to watch the gophers. Has a ramp, so stroller/wheelchair friendly.

Dominique M — Google review

Nice rock. Impressive how it has moved all the way from Jasper. Nice little thing to see on the way. Not a lot of people.

Rasmus K — Google review

This place is just situated at a vally and looks like this rocks are treated as sacred by first nation but I have seen people climbing the rock and taking selfies which can pose serious risk. Also do not lock the men's toilet from inside, the lock does nit work. I had a hard time opening the door. Please click on 'Thumbs up/down' on helpful button. This will help me to get a feedback on how I am doing.

I freaking loved this place. Its sooo peaceful and serene. Its so close to calgary i cant believe i have never been there before. Great history behind it, came all the way from Jasper national park on a glacier!!!!!!

N. V — Google review

Very cool spot! It doesn't take long to explore but I think it's worth stopping at especially if you are in the area. There was also a ton of Prairie Dogs roaming around which was very exciting.

Victoria G — Google review

Really nothing to hike or do other than just see this rock. But relaxing. Just chill and enjoy nature.

Miste R — Google review

Great place makes you wonder where did these giant rocks came from. The whole area is quite scenic sorrounded by open feilds and hills and mountains. I have attached images and video with details on how did these two big rocks came in middle of nowhere. Kids had fun chassing those ground moles. The fields near by had horses and it was great. There is ample parking, washrooms and garbage bins. Even accessible wheelchair ramps. This is just a few mins from Okotoks and its a must visit spot. Follow me for more reviews.

Vids T — Google review

was able to capture these astonishing stars and the sky was really magical. although we went at night, we couldn’t see the mountains but we stayed there for few minutes and it was really peaceful. ☮️

Garry C — Google review

Well, what can you say! It’s a pretty big rock.In the middle of a plain, so out of place yet so beautifully in place. There are information boards about how it got there all the way from Jasper! A short visit location but you can just chill there. A 10 min walk around the rock. Good parking options and historically impressive! Feels good to have visited here!P.s Sorry the photos are dark, we got there after 10.30 PM.

Amazing quartzite mountain pieces moved all the way from Jasper area by glaciers! This is a sacred First Nations site, please do not climb on it!! (This is posted on the signage)

A great place to visit. Quite and no waiting time. You can view the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Better to visit it in a sunny weather.

Jessica R — Google review

Sunset is an amazing time to visit this UNESCO site. Not only are there fewer people, which tends to lead to more wildlife, but the colours are phenomenal!

Crystal B — Google review

Such an amazing phenomenon! Hard to believe it was carried All the way from Edith cavall by Jasper and deposited here on the prairie in by okotoks. A beautiful piece of rock!!

Parking, easy little walk if you have kids and wheelchair accessible. If you come in, the winter path is icey.

Nature’s wonder.. unbelievable to think how such a big rock travelled such a large distance.. looks magical during the sunset.. Ample parking nearby..

Redev B — Google review

Neat little stop, especially at sunset! Enjoyed walking around looking at this, while enjoying the beautiful sunset and the horses in the field next to it!

As a climber, this was definitely on my list to visit. Worth it. Bring ur climbing shoes and chalk, and if u have a pad, you can spend a good couple hours here.

Tanya — Google review

Such an interesting place to visit. If you come to Alberta you should make a point of going here. Learn about the history. A short drive from Okotoks. Well worth it.

Sara S — Google review

What to do within half an hour of Calgary❓If you pass by this town, you must come and touch the magical flying rock of the Rocky Mountains~✔️ Although Okotoks Erratic is a small attraction, this rare giant rock is believed to be left by glacial activity thousands of years ago, making it a remarkable sight and a iconic landmark of Okotoks❗️✔️ Okotoks Erratic is a massive glacial boulder, towering at 9 meters and weighing 16,500 tons, resembling a mini version of the Stonehenge!✔️ "Prairie Dog Haven": It's full of cute prairie dogs 🐿️, just like the real-life version of the "Whack-a-Mole" game we played in the park as kids. They pop out of their burrows, munch on food, and stand up to watch the crowd, super adorable 😍✔️ "Hiking Adventure": You can head to the Big Rock Trail 🏞️, meandering along the river's edge. Along the way, you'll enjoy expansive views of the prairie and even see a small horse ranch 🐎.

Outdoor Activities

The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre is a museum that showcases the history of the Crowsnest Valley and the tragic event that occurred in 1903, when a deadly landslide took place. The exhibits bring to life the early days of mining and railroad development in the area. Interactive activities are available for children to enjoy. The highlight of the museum is a film dramatizing the disaster. Additionally, hiking trails from the museum take visitors over the slide site where they can experience this unique heritage first-hand.

Interesting interpretive centre, but the highlight for me was the hike through the slide. Be sure to grab a brochure or it’s just a bunch of rocks. We still had fun coming up with our own interpretations :-) A unique experience!

This is a lovely historic site to visit. It is a natural masterpiece showing the handiwork of God the master creator. Lovely sight and and view, a great place for relaxation and with lots of parking and seats and table for mini family picnic. It's always a delight to be here and connect with nature and hike the trail.

Great & informative interpretive center! Staff is super friendly & soo knowledgeable on Franks slide. What a sad moment in history, but what an amazing way they've captured & continue the story of what happend. Definitely worth checking out! You wont regret it. Also, great photo ops of the slide itself.

This is a spiritual place, where parts of a mining town and its inhabitants lie buried under a huge pile of rubble from Turtle Mountain. The Indigenous people of the area called it the moving mountain. They knew about its temperament. My only disappointment is that I visited on a Monday and the interpretive centre was not open.

B K — Google review

My first time visiting Crow’s Nest Pass and I’m enjoying learning all the history around me. The Centre is very informative and has many educational exhibits.

Gaby ( — Google review

Stunning displays and views! This centre is laid out in such a way that you always feel like you are looking outside. They have a beautiful path you can hike on outside, just be aware that it starts out fairly accessible (wide, well maintained but with a gravel surface) and transitions to uneven gravel steps and steeper slopes, until it finished with a “trail” hike back up (narrow dirt foot path with roots along a steep slope). You could always turn back and go to the wider path. This isn’t a knock against the path - I personally thought it was beautiful and nice to see all the different types represented in one adventure, however if you have mobility challenges it concerns be aware ;)

Wonderful museum! Very informative and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent views of the Crowsnest Pass from both inside and outside the museum. Well worth a visit!

The power of the “moving” Turtle Mountain. A great lesson for us to collaborate and esteem our Indigenous people and First Nations before you put a spade or a drill in the ground. Very enlightening and heroism. Many stories.

RR R — Google review

Staff here were fabulous. I didn't get a chance to take the tour this time but have in the past. I did the walk around and visited the gift shop.

Robynn B — Google review

Highly recommended! Carve out the time and stop here for a couple hours. Great flow, helpful staff, clean and full of some unique Alberta history. It really helped me see things a little different afterward. Best $15.00 you will spend in the area.

The T — Google review

Well curated and in-depth look at the abject tragedy that occurred over a century ago. Ideal for family and adults, as there are interactive exhibits, artifacts, and general area history. The FSIC also includes the history of Hillcrest Mining Disaster.

Chris C — Google review

Visiting the site of natural disasters and observing the impact on the landslides , with big rocks and a sense of history, can be a somber experience. The information center is a valuable resource, providing useful insights, and the availability of videos about the slides enhances the understanding of the area. While there is an entry fee, the numerous parking spots make it convenient for visitors to access the location.

Destination M — Google review

The center is totally worth it. It takes about 1.5 hours as it includes two short films in a nice theatre. Kids has lot of fun as there was a lot to learn, great stories, kids coloring station ample parking & washroom and the best part is the amazing view of the whole slide & turtle mountain from the centre. Check out the images/videos I have added & follow for more.

Vids T — Google review

The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre is a great museum to stop at when passing through the Crowsnest Pass area. The museum itself is very well done and really focuses on the impacts of the slide to the town and the individual people affected by it. It is cool that you can pick up receivers to hear audio clips describing their experiences. The displays are also incredibly informative and well put together. A great place to learn. There are also a lot of great views to be had outside and from on top of the centre. The only downside is that the staff were very pushy about wanting you to go to the films being shown in the theatre. Maybe this was just my experience, but I wasn’t pleased with the insistence of one staff member.

Colby — Google review

A must-see. The tour guides are knowledgeable about the area and are welcoming with their information about the Frank Slide and the Hillcrest Explosion. There are many viewpoints to view Turtle Mountain and facts are located at each one. Two films which explain the time period and life around Frank, AB were interesting and informative about the natural disasters. Would like to come back in the springtime to explore the path they have below the mountain.

Hayley S — Google review

There’s a short film that explains the history of the place, the people who lived in the town, the day the disaster took place and other facts. Quite interesting to stop by and check it out if you’re passing by the area.

Located in Nanton, the Bomber Command Museum of Canada is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. The museum showcases three WWII bombers and various training aircraft, along with aviation art, informative videos, and archives. Visitors can explore the well-maintained displays and aircraft while enjoying fascinating films and library materials accessible through the museum's website. Additionally, the museum offers picnic tables in the adjacent park for a relaxing break.

Truly fantastic. Was here last summer with my husband. The displays are amazing. I especially liked the Great Escape, Dam Busters (I bought the T-shirt) and Nose Art exhibits. The restored aircraft are a sight to behold. The Virtual Reality Experience (1943 Berlin Blitz) is well worth the added price.

More than I expected. Amazing volunteers telling historic stories that leave you with goosebumps. What a unique idea for a birthday party, so glad I finally got to check it out.

Erin K — Google review

Absolutely brilliant museum, thoroughly enjoyed walking around the many exhibits, checking out the inside of the Lancaster & absorbing the huge amount of information. The staff were awesome too!

Trish P — Google review

Thank you for hosting our homeschool group! Booking was a breeze. Our guide was engaging and informative. There was so much to learn, and the bombers on display were fantastic. This is a must visit location if you are in the area!

A C — Google review

Nice aviation museum, with plenty of aircraft maintained in perfect shape by a team of passionate volunteers. The centerpiece of the collection is the Lancaster bomber (and the set of special bombs that made it famous, like the rolling bomb for the dambuster mission and the 10000 kg bomb). On specific occasions, the plane is rolled outside, and engines are turned on: what a show! The dedication of these guys is incredible, they are currently restoring a Mosquito and are planning on expanding the museum. Easy parking locations outside and lots of souvenirs available.

Michael L — Google review

The planes they have are great for the everyday visitor or the aviator.Plus you can see & talk with the team actively restoring one.Plus they aren't just sjow pieces but the engines start & run.Tom Cruise would be excited with the rarity & so should you

Gordon B — Google review

The museum is a must-see if you're a WWII enthusiast or if you're into the history of Aviation. The museum has lots of artifacts and history that you could spend a good part of the day. Of course the main attraction is the Lancaster bomber.

Blair N — Google review

This is located in Nanton, and it's a museum dedicated to Canada and Canadian heroics during World War II. Kids usually have an amazing time here, and it is worth supporting Canadian bravery and ingenuity during one of the most perilous times in world history.

Well this was a great surprise.Came to Nantoon to visit family and was told about this museum. And that they have a Lancaster Bomber on site And that the do an engine run from time to time And that's right Friday night engine run it was awesome. I didn't get to see much of the museum but bought some cool souvenirs.I was in awe of the massive engines and the sound. Made me remember the Men and Women who fought for our freedom.Lest we Forget ❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧

Bomber Command brings out the child in everyone. From the planes, to the exhibits, to the running of the engines a few times a year, it is a fun place to go with children and adults.

Fee is by donation of your choice. Be generous. The museum requires tremendous maintenance. All displays and aircraft are in superb condition.Films from archives that are not seen outside the museum. Library material can be viewed via their website. Fascinating films in many locations throughout the museum.Interesting photographs and quick to read displays. The display designer is talented! Picnic tables in the park next to the hanger.

The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology is a world-renowned museum that specializes in dinosaurs and fossils. The exhibits are so amazing, even people who don't have an interest in dinosaurs will leave feeling like they're missing their calling as paleontologists. Some of the most famous specimens on display include 'Hell-Boy' and 'Black Beauty'.

This was such a fun experience. Fun for the whole family no matter their age. Would recommend to everyone. It'll take a couple of hours at least to see everything. They rotate their exhibits every so often because there are just so many pieces. You can even see people work on some of the pieces too which is neat. The staff is also friendly too. There's even a cafeteria inside as well if you need a drink or a snack.

James W — Google review

Great place to visit now and then, some of the exhibits have been updated to be motion operated rather than button operated which is a bonus these days! Kids 6 and under are free and there is a kids section with interactive puzzles and viewing gadgets! They are currently building an addition to the front of the building so you will have to walk around the construction area to get to the lobby, which can be a cold walk in the winter. Otherwise it's the same museum it's been for many years, very well maintained.

Jason — Google review

I can not truly put into words how amazing this place is.We visited on a Monday during term-time, so the crowds weren't too bad inside. There was no queue to enter as multiple staff were handling ticket sales smoothly and efficiently. There was good parking, and the grounds were well maintained. The inside of the building was immaculate, all glass displays were spotless, and every interactive exhibit was in perfect working order. The layout of the museum is brilliant. It guides you through each exhibit in a way n which you don't miss a single thing. There is an abundance of seating for regular rests: This was very useful for myself personally. The toilets were accessible and clean and placed strategically throughout the museum. The information on each specimen offered a perfect balance in terms of readability. The information was succinct and to the point, making it accessible for children and adults alike. There was a lot to do to entertain children! We saw children walking around with quiz sheets, and there are lots of interactive areas, videos, and a section dedicated to interactive play and exploration.I could have spent a whole day here and still not see everything! It's definitely a place I will return to on my next visit to Canada! As is normal for museums, it was an exit through the gift shop: I found there to be a large variety of gifts and souvenirs with something to meet all budgets! This place is suitable for all ages, and the entry fee was very reasonable considering the wealth of fossils on display. The cleanliness and accessibility of the museum was very impressive.Strongly recommend anyone to visit!

Jen C — Google review

Dinosaurs are cool. Lots of information in this place. Lots to take in. Spent 3 hours here just looking around. So much to see. Totally worth the cost of admission. The staff is great. Lots to see and do here. I would go again!!The only reason it's only 4 stars instead of 5 is all the noisy people talking about nothing to do with the exhibits (don't care about your personal life Karen) and getting in the way of those trying to enjoy the experience. Shame some of the visitors are ignorant of how to behave in public.

Donny B — Google review

I loved this place so much. Very educational and mind-blowing. I have never thought that I could appreciate Earth and dinosaurs more, but after visiting the museum, I was left speechless. I love it how they have marked original and cast on the display so we can know they are not deceiving the public.

Ahmed H — Google review

This is one the best museums for understanding paleontology. The layout is very well planned so that you wouldn't miss out on any of the exhibits. Each display has a good description and details. I loved some of the activities which will keep you engaged.

Sandeep K — Google review

If my memory is correct 21$is for adult. It’s a must place to visit in life time. Abundant history and a lot to learn. If you’re in Alberta it would be a shame if you don’t go. It’s really worth it and please go in the morning, evening would be a little rush. The valley is beautiful but it was closed last time I went.

Sona J — Google review

Amazing museum that we enjoy visiting as a family. Kids always love coming from when they were 2 years old until now (almost 10).Very engaging exhibits to walkthrough. The museum is set up really well where it keeps all people walking in one direction and everything is built using ramps which makes it excellent for wheelchairs and strollers. Each time we visit we learn so much! Definitely recommend taking workshops when offered in the warmer months... We still talk about the casting one!

Justin — Google review

Fun place to take adults and children to learn about the history of the dinosaurs. Amazing well placed exhibits. Great descriptions. Easy to find your way around. Staff are relatively helpful, but don't seem very happy... I would have given a five star, but the rest room outside the cafeteria was super small and no tissue available in a couple of the ladies stalls.

Sara S — Google review

Good place for kids, very informative and entertaining. It has lots of artifacts and fossils to see. It also has interactive exhibits that could be interesting kids as well as adults. It also has a small gift shop where you could buy dinosaur and fossil themed t-shirts, rings, playing cards, magnets and other gift items and keepsakes.

Ruth M — Google review

This museum is worth every dollar. It takes you back and opens your mind to imagine what these animals lives were like. The museum's set up to start in the oldest to newest eras was awesome. From the oldest to newest, with so many specimens and species. Historical facts, pictures and videos compliment the displays. Some show a Trex how they would be attacking prey and eating it. Even sea creatures are represented with one entire room set up as if you are under water. It was spectacular.10 out 10

Wendy H — Google review

An amazing place for the whole family. Lots of cool exhibits and dinosaurs to see. Little food court there for a little break. Great gift shop with lots of options for all ages. Playground outside for the little ones to burn off some extra energy. Great views on the walking path. Prepare to walk up from the lower parking lot. Top parking lots are usually full. Great day for kids and adults

Randy H — Google review

A beautiful display of fossils from around the world. The museum has done an excellent job explaining the history and significance for each finding. We came on a Sunday afternoon, there was no wait and we bought tickets on the spot. Expect to spend about 2 hours here going at a steady pace without kids. With kids you could spend 4 hours here easily. There are pretty views of the badlands and hiking trails at the top of the stairs outside. Inside, be sure to check out the greenhouse area - it's tucked away and easy to miss if you're not paying attention.

Jasleen K — Google review

Haven’t been back since 2005 so it was a fun nostalgia trip. Lots of exhibits and fossils to see. Went on a Saturday at 1 pm and it was fairly busy but not so busy that you couldn’t find parking or couldn’t take single photos without people in the back. Definitely didn’t have to worry about tickets being sold out either.Definitely had as much fun now as I did when I was 10. And crazy enough, they still had the small plush I bought when I was a kid in their gift store. I absolutely loved the dinosaur plush but lost it. It rocked my world to see it again and to be able to purchase and own it again as a part of history.

Cherry S — Google review

This is a fun place to reconnect with ancient animals from the past, more like the site and seeings seem too true or too real, or should I say too scary to be true. The bones were massive, at a point, and till now, I doubt if those were real or make believe? Did dinosaurs truly exist? And if yes, how come they were all killed and what's the evidence a massive stone from space that's 10KM wide struck the earth and causing their death, these questions makes it difficult to believe but nice one as the kids love it.

Babatunde — Google review

An Alberta staple! The museum is constantly updating and improving the education and knowledge they provide! I was able to bring some friends from out of the province to explore the fossils and Badlands. Luckily it was not too busy as we went on a Tuesday morning and most of the other patrons were young families. I recommend bringing a water bottle and snacks as they do have a cafe, but it's not in the loop of all the exhibits but at the end. If you're going during the summer pack good shoes and sunscreen! The park around the museum is beautiful but very warm. There was construction at the front of the museum when we went and it was a little confusing to find the entrance but we found it eventually.

Becx A — Google review

A world class fossil exhibit just an hour and a half’s drive from Calgary! This is a must visit if you’re in Alberta, the fossils on display are incredible, showcased in equally stunning environments. The building itself is well maintained, with clean and well thought out interior. Each area is divided based on time period and dinosaur families, which makes the visit structured and educational. There are boards which provide useful information about each species along with self guided tours which you can follow to learn more! Trust me you will be blown away by the Dinos shown in this museum. There is even a gift shop at the end of the path to buy souvenirs and goodies. The pricing is fair for the visit and parking is plentiful outside. Do not miss this attraction, it’s one of the best in Canada!

Jason N — Google review

I made the trip from Calgary with a friend specifically to visit this location. Adult entry is $21, and it takes approximately 2.5-3hours to tour the museum. If you love dinosaurs this place is amazing. At times the exhibits seemed a bit crowded, as though they needed more room. There is a nice informative walking trail outside that gives information about the Alberta badlands.Definitely worth the visit for dinosaur lovers and enthusiasts.

Aria H — Google review

An absolute must-see museum for any museum or dinosaur fanatic. It boasts a great collection with lots of information. A great glimpse into our worlds past. There are interactive stations to keep kids engaged. Restrooms are clean and staff is friendly. There is a big gift shop with an array of different souvenirs to buy. The Cafe has a decent selection of food.

One of the best museums in the world. The collection is immense with many original pieces. The walk through evolutionary time is fantastic. The kids and adults all really enjoyed the museum. Highly recommended. We took about 4 hours in the museum. One child decided to do the fossil casting which added 45 minutes to the trip. She learned s lot, got to hold fossils, and made a fossil cast. It was well worth the $10 ticket, plus one paying adult to have her experience the program.

What an incredible experience! The Royal Tyrrell Museum is a treasure trove of information and history. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that this was a well-curated, thoughtful exhibit designed to engage visitors of all ages. There's so much to see and read that we quickly realized one hour would not suffice. My advice to future visitors: allocate plenty of time to truly immerse yourself in the wealth of knowledge the museum has to offer. Whether you're a history buff or just curious, there's something for everyone here. The kids were absolutely thrilled with the interactive exhibits, while the adults found the detailed information and historical context fascinating. It's a great outing for families, but also appealing to anyone with an interest in paleontology or natural history. In short, we all left feeling satisfied and a whole lot smarter. A must-visit if you're in Drumheller!

Stellar! If you’re big on fossils and history then this is the place for you! I had a great time learning and looking at what creatures roamed the world millions of years ago. The atmosphere and vibe were awesome; appropriate for the setting. I recommend purchasing tickets beforehand, our wait was a tad bit long but it wasn’t a problem. Overall, this is a phenomenal museum that ticks all the boxes, leaving me more than satisfied with my visit.

My son has wanted to be a palaeontologist for years so we went to the Royal Tyrrell Museum to see what he could learn. We paid extra for the small group experiences (one is in the video) and they were worth the time and money. Extensive collection of fossils and beautifully displayed. We made some wonderful memories here and I’m so glad we came.

This museum is informative, fun, and immersive without being tacky. It's really fascinating to learn about dinosaurs and see the displays so clearly labeled. There's some interactive play space for children to get more hands on experiences. Also to watch the paleontologists work diligently at uncovering fossils was interesting. There are lockers on site and a cafeteria. No food or water in the exhibit. The gift shop isn't atrociously expensive. My kids enjoyed themselves.

Amazing Museum. So many thing to see. Saturday morning at 10:10 Parking easy, no lineup. Simple walk around. Could see every exhibit. On the way out at 12:30 so many new customer and parking lots almost full.

This is one of the best museum for me in the world. One of my concern was the guy with thick beard wearing eyeglasses who took our payment. He is unbelievably rude. My dad made a joke and he addressed the people who's with him (us) and the guy reacted negatively and threatened my dad he will have him out of the museum. He raised his voice. I was about to react but my dad said it's okay. If you have an employee like that in that amazing place. Not a good place be with anymore.

AJ T — Google review

Must visit for all dino enthusiasts. Some tips: there is overflow parking but the direction was not too clear. Check Google map satellite view and you'll see it.Avoid the crowds as it made my experience a bit worse.I was a little disappointed with the museum shop. For Canoo App users, you have to buy the ticket first, and then get your refund in customer service.Do book your visiting time slot instead of walk-in, you will be able to skip the line.Don't miss the wonderful trail behind the museum, stunning landscape.

This museum was the main reason for our visit , our third time. Came on the Monday after Easter Sunday and it was not busy at all, which was nice compared to our other times here. I am so impressed with how well done the whole museum is, very much worth the trip out from Calgary. I always say I’d like to come on my own and read more while there as my kids kind of rush through! Lots of options in their cafe as well if you have to stay for lunch.

Mind-blowing. One of the best museums in North America I've ever been to. Lots of exhibits and interesting displays, allowing us to spend at least 3 hours to explore. We enjoyed the time and appreciated the efforts and works that all the researchers and staff put together. Worthwhile to make a visit.

About 90 minutes outside of Calgary. Well worth the drive. Amazing landscape in the geographic area! The museum itself was beautiful. A lot of work has been done to educate visitors about the province of Alberta, the artifacts found as well as who found them and when. So glad we made the trip.

Always a favorite place for our family for decades! Glad to share this with my kid now. Great place and the new improvements to the interpretive trail are awesome as well as to the rest of the museum. We did a Dino dig too with them once and it was worth it. The World's Largest Dinosaur is a gigantic statue of a Tyrannosaurus Rex that is located in Drumheller, Alberta. The statue is 86 feet tall and features a viewing area in the mouth. Tourists can climb inside the statue and view the Badlands from inside the beast's gigantic mouth.

This is a fun tourist attraction, even during the winter. Friendly staff, newly renovated and a fun shop to by all the dinosaurs in. This place is amazing for kids, especially during the summer when the waterpark is operating.

Greg M — Google review

This was super fun and affordable! We got here just ahead of a few other families and had the panoramic views to ourselves for a few minutes. You have to climb stairs to get to the t-rex head; it was a good mini workout but could be a challenge for some, particularly anyone with mobility issues. The people in the gift shop and visitor center were helpful and lovely. I'm glad we stopped here! Free parking out front as well.

Christine D — Google review

Parking near the statue is free however they charge for climbing up. No elevator, and I don’t feel spending money for climbing up those stairs. But kids would be interested to and for those who are visiting this place for the first time . There is a fun area for kids and they could have fun.

Anitha J — Google review

Oh man, the kids love him. The staff are awesome, and you guys knock it out of the park. Thank you for making our visit so great!

Michael H — Google review

Paid $5 to go up to the top for a view. Fun little place to bring the family for an afternoon. There's a gift shop and park with all kinds of dinosaurs nearby.

Maxx W — Google review

Cool experience for kids. Nice that they encourage everyone to give groups a chance in the mouth on their own. The stairwell has some cool items to look at along the way. What's great is it's right in an area with other dinosaur statues and a fountain area which acts like a wading pool. This fountain gave us a much needed cool down on a super hot day. The Dino experience is quite quick (up and down) but you could spend a couple hours here just exploring and hanging out.

Marta L — Google review

It’s a bit of a gimmick but really didn’t expect much else. The view is spectacular and as you climb the stairs the story of the Dinosaur statue is told. My kids LOVED it.

Daunavan B — Google review

Was the extra 120km for this worth it? Yes! A thousand times yes! What a sight! What a beauty of human ingenuity combined with our prehistoric knowledge. The whole town is fun to visit so if you get close-ish by do the detour any day!

It cost $15 for three adults the same price of a family with kids over 6. It wasn't to many stairs so I wasn't tired by the end. The view was nice and they had their own hashtags to use on social media posted in easy to see places.

Cindie G — Google review

Bit of a money grab. Five bucks to climb to the top. There are benches to sit on part way up, but it is a bit a of a climb if you're older. Nice views, but if it's busy then be prepared to wait at the top.

Kate F — Google review

Quite enjoyable however climbing up with a toddler isn't fun. We loved the view. The ticket is $5 (and we paid) but we found out it's quite easy to go without paying.

Anna K — Google review

For a $5 donation to local nonprofits, a peek on the inside to climb to the top. I was impressed with the art and detail put in to making the climb itself enjoyable too. There’s fossil replicas, a mini dig site, some more artistic interpretations as well as audio. Our wait wasn’t that long, the actual standing area funnels into a pretty small space so people move quickly. Still a fun pit stop.

It's not well organized for climb up to the top of dinosaur. I paid to got in there was no one to check the tickets. When I came out 7-8 peoples went in without buying the tickets. So why bother to set the price if you're not really care about it. The decorations were nice and I liked it though.

Great place to visit with your family and friends. Lots of picnic space to sit. Tickets for going inside the dinasours mouth is cheap. But you have to wait atleast 10 mins to go in. Inside it has around 100+ stairs to go up. Outside there are water fountains that kids can play. Dinasours look so good and big. You can spend 3-5 hours there. Kid friendly place. Had lots of fun.

Hiking area

Hikes through a red- & green-tinged river gorge surrounded by wildflower meadows & mountains.

Beautiful place, easy hiking trails. Make sure to bring water, especially on a warm summer day. If you want to soak up your feet and walk up the stream, I would suggest you either have sandals or water-shoes, as I did not.Definitely go earlier in the morning to avoid the crowds, as you might not have a parking spot in the afternoon.

Annie R — Google review

So beautiful! The trail is super easy! Perfect for kids. They’ve added a lot since I was here last. You can really see the beauty of the waterfalls abs nature. Great walk/hike to do with the kids and lots of nature to see! Wild flowers are so stunning!

Melissa H — Google review

Beautiful place to hike, picnic and jog. The mountain stream is clear and helps you keep cool in the summer. Lots of wildflowers to see during June. The parking is right at the trail head so it's easy to get to.

Patplace88 — Google review

Mesmerizing and engaging landscape with a short and effortless hike. Because of this, it is usually quite crowded, especially with families and kids enjoying the water. It might not be the best spot if you're looking for a quiet, personal experience. However, the ease of the trail and the sheer beauty of the views make it an absolute must-visit, even if you're sharing the experience with others.

Candice W — Google review

I haven't been here in years and it's gotten way busier. Beautiful red rocks and an interesting little hike. Bring water shoes and possibly change of clothes as you will definitely get wet. Lots of people, very busy. The bridge on the far top path was closed, so no way to go around the canyon on the top.

Svetlana Y — Google review

Absolutely spectacular family hike! The falls themselves were nice, with all the safe railing and man made government approved stuff but go up past that.... the forest full of wildflowers, easy creek access and mountain views was amazing! returning home to the parking area and playing in the Red Rock Canyon River to cool our hot feet and enjoy the fresh water was brilliant!

Scott M — Google review

The drive to get here was beautiful. Lots of parking and essential utilities. You can walk the paved path around the canyon, about 15 minutes. Hike down in the canyon along the stream. Then hike over to the falls, about 15 minutes from the lot. Got there about 9am and it was nice and quiet, but by 10:30 it was quite busy.

Chad _ — Google review

Red Rock is always worth it. The drive will likely land you a view of a bear or two. We found a young one but hind leg was clearly broken and limping. Poor thing! Hit by a car no doubt. The canyon is walkable. We only go down into the are under the bridge. Lots of peeps around competing for pics. The walk is usually a loop and you cross over bridge at the top after a very short walk but it's boarded up on both sides. No doubt it I not stable after the fire that ripped through this area a couple of years ago. High recommend for an easily accessible activity 👌

J B — Google review

Wonderful and unique red rock canyon that is easily accessible by car. The best tip that I can give you is to go early to avoid the crowds. Even at 8AM on a Sunday (8/21/2022), you will likely have the entire canyon (and the nearby falls) to yourself, and enjoy it so much more. At the time of this review, there is construction at the canyon so you are unable to go deeper into the canyon or access the trails beside the canyon.

John B — Google review

The jewel of Waterton, and one the most scenic trail heads. The trails there are all beautifully worthwhile, too. Take it slow and take all the colours in. Submerge all your senses in this eternal play of lights, sounds, smells, earth, wind, and water intertwining. Let your spirit soar at every so often glance at the pointy tip of Anderson Peak ever-present in the backdrop. Shake yourself loose of all daily sorrows and woes, even if only for a fleeting moment.Don't forget to enjoy the road there. It is easily one of the most scenic drives in the world.[I took all the pics in this post, except the road pic. It is my auntie's as I was driving.]

P N — Google review

It’s so beautiful. There’s so many cute hikes with amazing views and the drive there is beautiful as well. Great parking and they have washrooms. There’s is paved walk ways and nice bridges. The red dirt and nature is obviously beautiful, the water flow is so crisp and clear and fun to splash in. I was there on a weekend and it was definitely overcrowded but still a great place to see.

Peter G — Google review

Amazing Canyon with red rocks truly unique. There are long and short trails from the parking spot. Speaking of parking lots there are two upper is small and lower is big but a bit of walk so good luck finding one on upper lot on a busy day few washrooms. Views of mountain and canyon is just breath taking. I have reviewed other spots in Waterton like prince of whales hotel etc check out my reviews and list of to do things in Waterton Park. Single day or discovery pass required to enter also follow for more.

Vids T — Google review

Such a beautiful area, we got here early on a very hot day and the place was quite busy when we left a couple hours later. Started out by walking around the top. Then walked into the canyon. Our feet didn't stay dry long. So I recommend a water shoe. Near the end are natural waterside that we had a lot of fun on.

We ventured out to Red Rock Canyon with high hopes of an epic outdoor adventure, and while the natural beauty did not disappoint, the facilities left a lot to be desired. Let's talk washrooms – or lack thereof. It was like stumbling upon the wild west of restroom situations. Unmanned and untamed, these washrooms were in dire need of some human intervention.Picture this: a line of nature enthusiasts forming outside a restroom, hoping for some kind of magical appearance of cleaning supplies and a bit of freshening up. But alas, it seemed like a scene straight out of a deserted town. The washrooms were long overdue for some updating and cleaning love, like they were stuck in a time warp where toilet paper and soap were ancient relics. Now, I get it, Red Rock Canyon is all about that free-spirited, wild vibe, but maybe a small surcharge could do wonders for maintaining these essential facilities. A mere $5 could be a lifeline for those washrooms, making them a bit more inviting and giving the whole place a touch more charm. With the influx of visitors, it's easy to see how the experience could be dampened by the lack of basic amenities. In the end, the stunning views and rugged terrain made up for the less-than-ideal restroom situation, but a little investment in the facilities could go a long way in making this adventure even more appealing to all us nature enthusiasts.

Bry G — Google review

Right upon arriving at Red Rock Canyon, I was pleasantly surprised to find wheelchair accessible bathrooms conveniently located near the entrance. While they were not flushable toilets, they were well-maintained outhouse-style bathrooms, providing a clean and accessible option for visitors. I was delighted to discover that the bathrooms were equipped with a diaper changing station, which is a thoughtful addition for families with young children.During my visit, the park was undergoing some maintenance or construction work, but it did not significantly hinder the overall experience. In fact, there were several sections of the canyon that were wheel-chair and stroller friendly, allowing everyone to enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings. It's important to note that due to the ongoing construction, not all the trails were perfectly straight, which may require some extra attention while navigating.Red Rock Canyon is a true visual delight. The contrasting red and green hues create a stunning backdrop for any kind of photography, whether you're capturing family moments, couples, or the captivating nature itself. The canyon's vibrant colors make it a perfect spot for capturing memorable pictures. As you explore the park, you'll come across a variety of hiking trails suitable for all levels of fitness. From shorter 1-kilometer routes to more challenging treks spanning 15 kilometers or more, there's something for everyone.Overall, Red Rock Canyon is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and photography enthusiasts alike. It’s a memorable experience for individuals, families, and friends seeking to connect with nature in a breathtaking setting. I highly recommend visiting Red Rock Canyon for an unforgettable outdoor adventure.Quick note: still lots of burned trees from the wildfire back in 2017

A nice excursion just 20 minutes from Waterton! This wide canyon features distinct red rocks and a small stream of water running through it. There are typically large crowds, especially on a weekend during summer so try coming early to avoid them. There is a nice pathway along the outside of the canyon where you can walk around, and you can also walk down into the canyon which a lot of people do. Take off your shoes and you are free to splash around in the water! The parking lot is nicely sized, with a restroom on site as well. Check this out when you're visiting Waterton!

Jason N — Google review

Red Rock Canyon (and area) has breathtaking scenery. We did the short hike up and around, and then dipped into the canyon to explore. The water was so clear and icy cold! We also stopped along the way and wandered various trails. I can't wait to come back!

Sights & Landmarks

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located approximately 70 kilometers west of Lethbridge, Alberta. The site is dedicated to preserving the Plains Buffalo culture that has lasted for over 6,000 years and features an interpretive center showcasing the Blackfoot Indigenous culture. This cultural landmark tells a story of resourcefulness and ingenuity as the Blackfoot people hunted buffalo by using cliffs near Fort Macleod.

Wonderful museum for a great history lesson. Exhibits are amazing and offers a great history lesson for everyone. Lots to see and the trails are nice for a little hike. Wildlife can usually be seen on your hike. A nice day trip for the family

Randy H — Google review

Really interesting historical and cultural site with artifact, Films, educational displays and a walk to the jump. This year there was no cafe which was unfortunate. The gift shop could be much better in terms of variety of items available too. Guided tours would be a good option if someone wanted to pay extra for that. As a local, I would suggest adding new attractions each year like concerts, guest speakers, interactive theatre, touring cultural displays like museums do. It is a must-see for travelers passing through and locals if you haven’t visited it. The stories and layout are very good. You can also save $ using your CF1 card.

Laurie M — Google review

Through landscapes, exhibits, and diverse programming, you will learn about the cultural significance of this cliff to the Plains People. There is an area where you can walk through the plains, it’s stunning ( 1.2 kilometre hiking trail beneath the cliff ) While you walk through you will notice different flowers, sage and berries. The exhibits inside are very educational. I would allow at least two hours to fully capture the full experience.

Lina H — Google review

A sacred part of Canada's past is preserved right here in Alberta and is something all Canadians need to experience. Do I take time now to describe every aspect of what a visit is like or urge every single person out there to make the trip to see and experience this extraordinary place. Staff are friendly and helpful. Facility is incredibly clean and very well organized. Absolutely tons of berries along the interpretive trail. TIPS: sunblock. Comfortable shoes for the interpretive walk. Do not take the first exit up a dirt road towards the tipi. Keep driving. Saw a few people head up there mistakenly. There is a huge sign at the entrance. People with physical disabilities, or other metabolic issues should be dropped off up top before parking down the hill in designated parking. It is a bit of a slog to get up the hill from there to the center.

J B — Google review

I visited Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site on a weekday in early July and sent several enjoyable hours there. This was such a worthwhile place to stop. The interpretive centre's displays and films were first rate! The lower trails outside were easy to follow and navigate. Coming across a pair of Yellow Bellied Marmots sunning themselves on a rock was a real bonus. One marmot took off but one curious fellow stuck around for quite awhile as long as I kept perfectly still and kept my distance..MY post would not be complete without sharing some flowers too. This wild rose grew very close to the ground and the petals are paler than the bush variety. The hill side bushes were mostly Saskatoons and chokecherries and they were loaded with berries just waiting to ripen.

Elaine K — Google review

Great place for a quick side trip, fellow RV campers told us about it so we stopped in as it wasn’t too far out of our way. It has a great interpretive Center with 7 levels built into the hill side. The exhibits and video are excellent along with the short hike. Well worth the $15 admission.

Darren C — Google review

What an amazing place to stop in and see. A very unique piece of history to learn about and see first hand. You climb stairs to the top and see the cliff then come back in and work your way down. Learning all about the history of the jump and indigenous culture. There is even a cool video, that is free to see, that is a reenactment of the buffalo jump being used. How it worked and some of the roles people had when it came to preparing the meat and catching the bison. I would 10/10 recommend stopping. The staff are so friendly!!! We even had a chance to ask a couple questions that we had to one of the staff working there. Incredible location.

Kathleen F — Google review

We have been here now twice and learn something new everytime. This past family day we were happy to experience the addition of extra interpreters, storytellers, and Birds of Prey on display at the site.Take your time and bring snacks. I noticed a lot of people on Google saying HSIBJ does not allow guide dogs. We saw a service dog in the building, but like any other museum, I'm assuming that you have to prove they are a real service dog.We will be back to experience the museum in the summer. A special thanks to Donovan, Quinton, and Conrad for sharing knowledge and being so welcoming today.

Gabrielle C — Google review

One of the most amazing places I have been to in Canada - so much history in one place, it's truly amazing. For context, this location has been in use for longer than the Great Pyramids have existed for.Talk to the staff as you walk in, as they'll explain the best way to experience the tour (head all the way to the top of the building so you can complete the cliff side walk first, and then complete the floors in the museum from top to bottom. Was really impressed with the show they played in the theatre as well, surprisingly good for something that is "free" after admission. Afterwards you can walk the bottom trail to experience another perspective). There is ample free parking on site, along with washrooms with a water station.

Andrew D — Google review

Great experience. Lots of information and a better understanding of indigenous people's in the area over thousands of years. The interactive displays and movies fully explained process of Buffalo jumps, which I didn't know before. Highly recommend stopping in. Takes a good couple hours to take it all in.

Adam ( — Google review

Very educational with information about the Buffalo Jump and the Indigenous peoples. A unique museum layout that is fitting for the theme. You get a great view of the plains when you get to the top of the museum.

Patplace88 — Google review

This is a great experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who is travelling nearby or anyone who has grown up in this area. I loved the people here who gave their time to share their culture and stories. I recommend the film and spend a bit of time outside. If you can definitely plan to visit during the dancing or if there is a special presentation or guest.

Kristin W — Google review

A UNESCO World Heritage Site with a lot of informative exhibits. Make sure you watch the feature film in the theater. I would recommend 2 hours for your visit. It is a 7 level museum experience but there are elevators to facilitate if you are mobility challenged.

Ryan S — Google review

Such a beautiful and informative site! We thoroughly enjoyed the museum displays and the walking trails. Be sure to watch the 15 minite movie in the museum theater, it was very informative and well done! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly!

K W — Google review

I've been wanting to stop here for decades and finally made the time. A great display of native history. Posted interpretive plaques throughout the park and along the trail did a great job of explaining the significance of this location. A great little walk.

Brian R — Google review

Absolutely wonderful. The view was incredible, the staff were very helpful and the entire museum was just fascinating. My son and friend had never been before, both of them enjoyed it immensely.

Rachel M — Google review

This is THE place to understand how the Blackfoot people hunted for the bison (Buffalo) and how they shared their blessings with the community, how everyone helped each other to make it possible to survive the winters. This is an absolutely amazing museum, with all the pertinent information on display. The structure is a brilliant piece of architecture. We watched the film which was done well and we were lucky enough to join a guided tour by a Blackfoot leader.Outside, one will be able to see the exact place where the buffalos (bisons) jumped off.I’d say 2 hours in this place would be the minimum if you’re really interested in the details. They have real stuffed buffalos (bisons) inside the museum situated in a high location so the viewer can appreciate what it was like for the animals at the edge of the “cliff”This museum is highly recommended, not to be missed!

Anna M — Google review

Well done site. The exhibits inside the building were well done and very interesting. The access to the upper cliffs was well planned out. No long hike to get there. An elevator ride and a couple flights of stairs. Well worth the trip. The story behind the name was worth reading, and very unusual. Highly recommend.

Mike S — Google review

A world class museum! The history and artifacts along with the cultural guide give an excellent history of the Blackfoot people and the buffalo hunt.

The Hoodoos Trail is a hiking trail in the Badlands of Drumheller, Alberta, that features otherworldly sandstone pillars with rock caps. The Hoodoos are synonymous with the Badlands, and there are some located only 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) from Drumheller!. The Hoodoos Trail is a short but scenic hike that will take you to one of the most photographed spots in the Badlands.

This place is awesome! The Hoodoos are easy to see from the road, and there's nice stairs that take you up closer. The hike/climb to the top is very steep and is all loose dirt so it's quite difficult, but the view from the top is beautiful

Ryan B — Google review

Amazing & very unique rock formations. Beautiful place to go for a quick stop. Both view from bottom & top are very nice. Hiking boots or shoes with good grip are recommended to climb up as there are loose sands & small gravels. Went on a Tuesday noon & was surprisingly busy. Only a couple of parking stalls were available.

Marie-Cel R — Google review

The scale of the hoodoos looks massive from pictures, which actually is very small.I expected this to be magnificent, but none the less, these badlands are wonderful anyway ! :)If visiting during day, it gets very hot. So ensure applying good sunscreens, wear caps and protect yourself.Consider hiking for better views from top.It is worth a visit if visiting Drumhellar.

Devaki K — Google review

Unique and beautiful landscape. We reached here around 7pm and there were very less people on the trail. There are steep climbs on this trail which can be hard but scenes from top are amazing.

Jyeshta N — Google review

We visited this popular place since we visited the Royal Tyrell Museum, just 22 kms northwest.Because of the natural erosion of rocks for hundreds of years due to wind and rain, this geographical wonder looks as if some architects have carved out the mountains and created beautiful designs and sculptures. The sight of unbelievably alluring landscape which has a few sandstone pillars with rock caps and a variety of carvings is stunning; the phenomenal, imposing badlands are inviting and able to exhilarate people of all ages. The metallic staircase is fairly easy to climb, and it provides magnificent alpine views of the eroded mountains. For want of time, we could not explore the trails that lead to higher peaks, but I intend to visit once again to do so.Parking and entry is free of cost at this wonderful, must visit tourist attraction in Drumheller, about 140 minute drive east of Calgary.

Bharat S — Google review

We arrived at the Calgary airport and drove straight to Drumheller. After supper we had energy and thought we’d check out the hoodoos. Easy drive from Drumheller, lots of parking available around sundown, a few mosquitoes (bring bug spray if you’re sensitive). It was a nice little walk around the site and very cool to see. My son (12) enjoyed it.

Jennifer B — Google review

I love this place. You can see the hoodoos from below or go up the stairs to climb around on them. Fun for everyone and okay for little ones. The sunsets here are also unreal!

Laura W — Google review

Must do! Beautiful climbing spaces. Picturesque from every angle. If it's hot, go early. Wear hiking shoes if you want to get adventurous but runners are fine. Actual "Hoodoo" protected space is a bit underwhelming but immediate surrounding areas are fabulous! Kids & adults will love this place.

Tami — Google review

Nice little trail, easy climbing if you want to get to the top for a great view. The terrain is slippery in some parts as the dirt is loose. Some shoes with good grip would make your descend easier. At the bottom, there are bathrooms, ice cream shops, and a hand-made jewelry and stones shop.

Albina Y — Google review

Really cool views of the area of you are able to climb to the top of the lookout but make sure to wear proper footwear. The trail is very steep in places and it's all loose rock and sand so quite difficult at times to get traction. We took the longer way down the back of the "mountain" which was far safer, if slightly less exciting. Views all around were spectacular.

Lauren G — Google review

This was amazing to see. We went later on a Sunday, and basically had the place to ourselves. The sun was just setting, and it was beautiful to see. They have a walking trail through it, and you can climb around on different parts. It was like climbing around on one of nature's playgrounds. Really fun!

Amber L — Google review

Such a cool place the kids loved climbing everywhere! Even if you have mobility issues you can still enjoy . It was 2 $ per car to enter however when we went they weren't collecting not sure why. But very cool spot for photos! It is like the "mars" of Canada! Very hot on the hot days it is legit desert! There are 2 dood trcks in the parking lot 1 was open when we went for snowcones!

Emily P — Google review

Came to drumheller to go to the museum, but ended up coming here after as it wasn't far out of the way. There is a ton of parking and the attraction is easily accessible. It's also free to see. These are very interesting geologic formations. I'd recommend this place as long as it's not more than 15 minutes out of the way.

Aneel M — Google review

Very good spot. Curious to know it got created and looks like mushroom. It also has some small trail to climb up the mountain. We were short of time so had to skip but yes you can only enjoy the beauty if you walk up the stairs.else from ground it looks nothing special. Natures beauty for sure. We could see some special stones and fossils in those places. Try to search for fun

Girish V — Google review

Great little side stop. There some washrooms as well as souvenir and food booths in the parking lot. For those who climb all the way up, there is a less steep, easier route down which takes you down to the road level a few hundred meters away from the parking lot.

Chris S — Google review

Spectacular phenomenon! Be very careful climbing; watched several people slip and almost fall and get injured from the top.Has nice walkways and stairs to admire the Hoodoo sand formations.Going for sunrise or sunset is a recommendation.

Tamara H — Google review

Excited to climb up to the top for breath-taking views. Do geared up with proper hiking shoes given the trail is steep and slippery. Climbing up is still manageable but it takes much longer to get down.

Little J — Google review

Great place. Nature at the level best. People .. as always: some of them kind, some of them without education.Point 1: read the signs before hiking.Point 2: take ALL your garbage back to the garbage bins.Point 3: enjoy the nature by respecting it.Point 4: be safe while hiking up and/down.Enjoy this monument.

Catalin D — Google review

I'm still in awe about this place. The natural formation is really amazing, especially during this good weather. Going to historical places likes this, should never be miss!

Judith P — Google review

Great natural land formations. Would recommend people to take a quick look around, but be careful if it’s muddy.

Laura G — Google review

Amazing phenomenon! Climbing requires extreme caution; I've seen a number of people trip, nearly fall, and sustain injuries.the Hoodoo sand formations can be admired from good pathways and steps. It is advised to watch the sunrise or sunset.

Kanan P — Google review

Earlier this week we visited the Hoodoo Trail. Over the years the change in formations is noticeable and inevitable. Having the excellent stair case installed, bench and garbage disposal nearby on the trail is great and very practical. Although signs posted ask people to stay out of key areas, there is certainly evidence of human traffic in those spots as the snow showed. Another concern is the climbing and consequential wear and tear on a gift of nature. In an earlier visit during the summer, there were a few near disasters of people nearly slipping and doing the great tumble. Perhaps such activity needs to be banned to preserve the area.

The Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site is an open-air museum that tells the story of coal mining in Canada. Visitors can explore the mine and climb the last wooden tipple in Canada.

We visited Atlas Coal Mine in October. It turned out to be a beautiful day in terms of weather and the Mine/area. Even though tours and indoors of the buildings were finished/closed for the season, it is always worth a visit. You can still walk around the mine and the posted signs are worth a read. We thoroughly enjoyed the off season visit. We even took a drive through East Coulee itself. You may be pleasantly surprised at the history, It's a lovely little town. Super friendly residents, every single person we encountered had a wave and a smile ready! We visited Atlas Coal Mine off season last year, this year and I think it'll be a tradition as we go along. We always enjoy the area!

Interesting little place, some good old machinery to poke around if that's your thing. The "Underground" tour isn't all that though. For the cost you basically get to climb ten storeys through a sketchy wooden boardwalk then go about five metres into the entrance of a mine that's blocked up. The train ride is only about 400 metres too.On the plus side, the guides were good. They delivered some interesting information and made some passable attempts at tour guide humour. All in all, it was an interesting few hours but probably oversold at the current prices.

Tom J — Google review

It's a very interesting place to look around. We're from UK touring around some of Alberta. There are 4 different things you can do, just walk around the lower area, book to go have a look at the mine, go on the train (it wasn't running when we were there) or book the operational tour. Whatever you do you will need enclosed shoes. The guides seem very helpful(we didn't do a tour). You can spend quite a while looking around. This, I think, caters more for adults than young children. We had a good time. One thing I would say is that it would enhance the venue if they incorporated a small café of some sort. This would bring in funds for the project and would help towards any restoration work that needs to be undertaken.

What a wonderful experience. We wanted a road trip from Edmonton and were looking for something different than the dinosaurs. We spent about four hours here and were not disappointed. We only registered for the train tour because that was all that was available. It was worth it for the experience of riding in a real old mine train and the information and stores from our guide . For the rest of our time we just wandered around on our own, talked with the guides who were free, and read the signs. The area of the site that you can visit is not large but the tour guides are phenomenal. So much knowledge and passion for mining history in Alberta. Bob is a real gem. What a precious opportunity to learn about our past and understand a bit better how we got to where we are today. And Sara, who gave us the train tour, was so great with the kids. She got them engaged and has a talent for speaking to all age levels respectfully.Definitely recommend visiting this mine if you're in the area.

Millie T — Google review

Waste of time and money. Cost $53 for a family of five to walk around a boneyard of old broken down rail cars. There’s only three buildings to go in and not much to read to learn about the history. The only cool place was the wash house. The train would have been fun but it’s an added cost and only runs a few times a day so we missed that opportunity. Same with the guided tours. That’s the reason we went and there were non available. Don’t go.

Richard K — Google review

Highly recommend this place! We did the mine portal tour followed by the train tour. Buy tickets in advance for fast check-in and to ensure you get a tour. Our guide was amazing! Personable with the adults and kids. Informative and fun. Loved the addition of the helmets. Those complaining about how you don't go into the mine tunnel very far need to read the website. The website has all the information you need and then some (kudos!)Train ride was also good. Don't forget your water bottle!

Interesting place and some interesting history. We went there at 4 pm hoping to ride the train but they said we missed the last one. Also they were finished with the tours for the day. I recommend going in the early afternoon. But I still enjoyed what I could see and do there.

Robert N — Google review

We had a lot of fun here. The train ride is a truly beautiful experience! A real train that was used to transport miners and haul coal. Although it was loud, it was a wonderful experience.Very close to the Hoodoos, so we did both at the same time. Great experience.

Vahid R — Google review

From the moment we were greeted at the counter by Michael, we had an amazing experience. We decided to do the train ride tour (with Sarah) and the mine entrance tour (with Kale). The tours were both worth it. Bill used to be a miner and was very knowledgeable and fun to talk with as well.Sarah operated the train and made the experience fun!Kale worked with us on the mine entrance tour and took time to show us everything. The prices for the admission and tours were incredibly reasonable and high value for the experience and service. To top it off, we even encountered an endangered bow snake. (Don’t be put off, it was far removed from the trail and we observed from a distance. They’re not poisonous)

What a place! As a homeschooling family we seek out these types of places,& this spot is filled with so much history, it's got info all around to explain the buildings, as well as tours that will keep you grasping for the next part! Prices are great, and it all goes back to this historical place! It's one of those places that we will enjoy going back to again & again!

Tasha W — Google review

Outdoor walk around the site is free!! We did not have time to do any of the tours you need to book in advance and cost a fee. We were able to see a lot and read info boards to learn a few things about the mine's history. They offer a variety of guided tours.

Brenda D — Google review

Awesome historical place with lots to see and learn about. The drive to and from makes it worth the effort.

Terence — Google review

This was an interesting piece of history to tour, the train ride, while great for little ones, was nothing to write home about but still, you get to learn a bit about the train, go for a brief ride in a coal car and it's generally pretty fun.The self-guided tour of the site was informative, there's signage to read with facts about the mine, the workers and the companies. I was most impressed with the Wash House personally. We would have loved to do the tour inside the mine but my son isn't 6 yet (min age) so something for another time.only 1 complaint and that was that there only appears to be one bathroom on site at the entry, so with having a toddler with a small bladder it was a bit of a pain to go back to the site entry to take him and then go back to where we were in looking around. it would be nice if there was a washroom or a portapotty near the midpoint on the site. otherwise a great experience!

Gabrielle G — Google review

Kale the train driver was great. Informative and great involving the kids. Must add the train ride it’s worth it. We can’t wait to go back when the kids are older to do full tour. It’s already in the plans

Karen H — Google review

Simply amazing!! My family and I rode the mine train which was really fun and our motordriver Brandon was really knowledgeable and fun. We heard a lot of cool stories and interesting facts about the coal mine which is always fun. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun activity.

The Atlas coal mine is a hidden gem. It is a must see when visiting Drumheller. Located around East Coulee, this tour goes in depth to the machinery, the daily lives, the logistics , and historic buildings that made coal mining in Drumheller. Our tour guide Charlie was an absolute gem to have for the two additional add on tours. They were informative, funny, professional, and witty. If you go on a tour and have Charlie as your guide, you definitely get your bang for your buck. Be prepared to dress according to the weather and to have water to stay hydrated as 80% of the tour is outside. Definitely a must-see!

Danise S — Google review

Amazing tours! Thank you Kale for your incredible enthusiasm, vast knowledge and infectious smile! You were the absolute highlight of the tours for sure! Bob was also absolutely incredible and full of knowledge about the site (as one should be if they worked there!! 😉)We WILL be coming back just to revisit in the future. 100% recommend for anyone visiting Drumheller!!

Alex H — Google review

I went on the mine portal hike and tipple tour with a young man named Charlie as tour guide, extremely interesting to learn the history and see the coal plant and also with Charlie as guide made this experience worth the long ways out and cost he was very funny and full of information and left nothing behind on detail. Great place to walk around and explore and feel the past. Charlie made this place feel exciting but also explained the hazards and cautions around us very well, spectacular man and super caring and well at his job! I recommend for trips.

Hidden Lake is a popular day-hike destination in Glacier National Park. From Logan Pass, hikers can take the Hidden Lake Overlook Trail down to the lake which is home to abundant wildlife. The short trail also runs through gorgeous alpine meadows, covered with wildflowers in summer and home to abundant wildlife.

This is an absolutely beautiful trail and the final destination at hidden lake is worth it. Bonus is you have a high chance of seeing mountain goats and big horn sheep. Occasionally you may come across a bear, but we did not see one this trip. I would say the trip to the actual lake is much easier than coming back. There are very steep switch-backs that definitely test your stamina. Make sure to take plenty of breaks on the way up! I would say another great bonus is seeing all the beautiful wild flowers on the way to the lake.

Lindsey S — Google review

Though parking can be tough at Logan Pass, visiting the center and the surrounding area is worth the effort. There are plenty of restrooms and exhibits, indoor and outdoor. The trail to Hidden Lake starts out the back door and is along a boardwalk for a good portion, though I still recommend bringing water and good shoes or well-fitting sandals. There's a couple herds that appear to love the are as well - Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Goat! BTW, visit the Hidden Lake overlook - it's very worth the climb!

Brian B — Google review

Imo this is a must do hike in Glacier NP. Not a super easy one, but definitely worth it!

Shamsun N — Google review

It is one of the most popular hikes in Glacier National park, Montana. Lots of stairs & it is an uphill trail to the beautiful lake. The trail of hidden lake starts behind the Logan pass visitor center. The view is amazing. We saw five big horn sheep on the trail. The lookout wooden platform is well maintained. The hike is moderate but worth it. You have to park your vehicle in Logan pass visitor center. Finding a parking spot is very difficult.

Poulami G — Google review

Nice incline up to the ridge overlooking the lake below. In late Spring there may still be snow up there but I as there in mid July and the snow was pretty much over on the shaded sides of the mountains.Mountain goats are a popular animal out here along with Marmots, Pika’s and ground squirrels/. The hike up the wooden boardwalk is a good work out folks, pretty easy though.Wildflower come out in full force in the spring time too.

Peter D — Google review

This is an amazing spot with a beautiful lake. It’s mostly boarded so easy to climb up. It is all up most of the first half but not a difficult hike. Fairly short. We saw mountain goats and rams. A beautiful experience. It does get very busy and the parking lot is fairly small so expect to wait for parking or have to leave and come back at another time

Diana S — Google review

If you have strength to continue from the overlook, you should. Stunning views.Exclusive Yellowstone cutthroat lives here, catch-release with artificial lure only.

Junqi Y — Google review

Easy hike with beautiful scenery. We saw a herd of big horn sheep.

Haixiang W — Google review

While parking is a major challenge at Logan Pass, this is a hike worth taking. One of the best, if not the best, in Glacier National Park. It’s a boardwalk for much of it, so very easy, with only moderate elevation. The non-boardwalk parts are easy dirt trails. You can’t get lost. The “lookout” is a 1.5 mile straight shot and gets you to about 8000 ft. So 3 miles round trip. You can hike down another 1.5 miles down to the lake, but that obviously makes the hike an additional 3 miles. This is a must do hike, at least to the lookout.VictorB

Victor B — Google review

The hike from Logan’s Pass is a moderately strenuous uphill 2 mile climb but along the way to the lake we got to see a mountain goat, multiple mountain sheep, and breathtaking vistas. Take as many breaks as you need especially if you adjust to the altitude the way I do and my breathing got very difficult for the first mile. Once you get to the viewing area of the lake there are a lot of people scrambling to take pictures and space became tight very quickly. It wasn’t the most beautiful lake I got to serve while at GNP but a great hike!

onthegoboomer — Google review

What can I say. This is the most beautiful lake scenery in the whole Montana state. I love the hike and the sights all around the trail is just amazing. Anyone in the area must see this place. Views are breathtaking. Trust me these pictures doesn’t do the justice. It’s a place that need to be on your bucket list. I can not wait to go there again.

Naqeeb U — Google review

This was one of my favorite hikes at Glacier. Finding a parking spot can be a challenge, so taking a shuttle is advisable if possible. And it is more crowded than some other hikes, but for good reason. The views were stunning and also be on the lookout for a wide variety of wildlife. If you have the time, I'd highly recommend going down to the lake, which is a perfect spot for a picnic lunch or just a relaxing break enjoying the amazing scenery.

David R — Google review

One of the beautiful alpine lakes in Glacier National Park. The start of the trail is through Logan pass. The trail takes you to the overlook and through the overlook there’s another trail that leads you down to the lake. Since the trail starts from Logan Pass, finding a parking spot is very challenging, so make sure you leave early.Chances of seeing wild goats on this trail is quite high. Also bear spotting is high when you walk down towards the lake from the overlook. During our time, the trail to the lake was closed because of the bears, so have your bear spray ready.

Aasma J — Google review

Very nice hike. Most of the way up it’s decking. The geology is amazing but the wildflowers are simply stunning.Stop and look. Don’t miss the best of the trail! You might see wildlife you might not. Usually there are mountain goats and ground squirrels. If you want there is more to the trail than just the overlook.

Logan Pass is the highest navigable point by road on the Continental Divide. The pass is located in Glacier National Park, at an elevation of 6646 feet. The views from the summit are stunning and it's a popular starting point for many hikes.

You definitly want to stop here. Logans pass has great views, scenery. Wildlife, etc. Just be aware, parking can be full due to the number of visitors. But no worries, it's worth the wait

Beautiful views in the park there are fields of wildflowers. Beautiful glaciers and Lots of wildlife. Logan Pass is the highest elevation (6646ft/2025m) and is accessible by car. It is really popular with visitors and the parking lot is usually full between 8:30 am sometimes even earlier and 4:00 pm. Consider visiting the park by using the free shuttles to avoid limited parking, or plan to visit early or late in the day if possible. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and have sunscreen.

One of the most popular spots in Glacier National Park. We did the Highline Trail hike here and the views were 🤩 amazing!!!Must visit in the park.

AJJ — Google review

Anyone heading to Glacier National Park, Going to the Sun Road and Logan Pass are essentials. Where with friends, family, or solo. While many with make a bee line to Highline Trail, there is much to offer at Logan’s. The hidden lake and panoramic vista’s just past the visitor’s center are breathtaking. Also the overlook viewing area near the entrance to Highline is a must.We love heading up as a family to have a wondrous time playing in the snow in early/mid July. Tossing some snowballs or making frosty’s cousin’s. Also the amazing wildlife, including mountain goats abound!!!

Jeffrey B — Google review

Except information center, busy parking lot and restroom nothing much unless you are here to hike hidden falls overlook or take even more hike to hidden falls or other nearby hikes. You need to walk in full sun so be prepared with everything

Danda N — Google review

Very beautiful place and a good place to park and go on trails. Has public restrooms, plenty of car parking, good trail paths with beautiful mountain views. I’ve visited this place in the month of June and the pass was open to public by then. The road(Going to the Sun road) to this place is one of the most beautiful drives I’ve ever driven. Very narrow roads but it is worth driving till the Logan pass. A must visit place in the Glacier National Park.

Jashwanthreddy K — Google review

Beautiful area & views. Snow was still on the trail in July, towards the end of the trail but before the lake overlook. Appropriate footwear is needed unless you like slip-sliding all the rest of the way. And water hiking sandals aren't sufficient by the way. I look forward to going again with "snow-capable" hiking boots so I can finish the hike. If you don't like taking 30 minutes to find a parking spot at the visitor center, go extra early. :) Also, note that there is not a restroom on the trail...prepare accordingly. Otherwise, enjoy the gorgeous scenery!! 🤩

TL C — Google review

Logan's pass is a stunning area, whether you're hiking, admiring the view, or checking out the visitor's center. we saw these boys near the parking lot - please make sure to stay back, and never feed the wildlife!

Natalie B — Google review

Absolutely worth beating the crowds and heading into the park at 5:30am, especially if you don't have a park pass because then you won't be allowed in until after 3pm. The parking lot at Logan Pass fills up FAST during peak season, and if you go early (5:30am) you can have more unobstructed views of everything. Also, at Logan Pass, you will see people park further and further down the hill and walk up, which seems pretty brutal because it's steep, and you've still got a big hike ahead of you. Be prepared to see animals roaming about on the hike, and please be smart and don't get close.

Michael C — Google review

Lots of animal airings and beautiful breathtaking views. Amazing experience of fairly warm weather with snow. Up hill hike but mostly wooden steps. Hiking shoes are a veni fit due to some slippery snow.

Anna K — Google review

Super spectacular mountain pass to drive and hike from. The wildlife and views are incredible!

Curtis W — Google review

Lovely place! Always can count on seeing big horn sheep and mountain goats. Parking can be a pain during peak season.

Kevin F — Google review

We got there July 22. 7 am. And the parking lot was full. Like FULL! But worry not people do come and go so you ll find a spot soon enough. The hikes are incredible. Views are beautiful. Wildlife if lucky is spectacular. Must do on a vist to the park!

Omer K — Google review

Hands down the most beautiful pass. It actually is a spot for some of the best trails. We entered the park through the West Glacier entrance and took the Going-to-the-Sun Road to reach to Logan pass. The views throughout were immaculate and spectacular. There are multiple overlook points in between that one can stop at and admire. We didn’t have enough time to watch the sunrise but if you have that in your itinerary, Logan pass is the spot. For sunsets I’d recommend Lake McDonald. The trails that we did that started from this pass were Hidden Lake Trail and the Highline Trail. Logan pass is also the spot for the Continental Divide, which separates the Atlantic and Pacific watersheds of North America. If you plan to do the Logan Pass trails make sure you have enough food and water because the trails are long and the visitor centre is only open until 5:15pm. Also make sure you reach there early to save yourself a parking spot because 9/10 times the parking spot is full and you don’t want to waste your time waiting for someone to leave.

Aasma J — Google review

Take the Highline trail from here, you won't be sorry..also cool exhibits and swag for the whole family, loads to see and do, don't expect to find a parking spot though, TAKE THE SHUTTLE

Jeff C — Google review

Logan Pass is at 6,646 feet where the Going-to-the-Sun-Highway crosses the Continental Divide. It is the highest point on the Going-to-the-Sun-Highway, and roughly 2/3 of the distance across the Park. The scenery is quite beyond words and this is another Must-Do when visiting Glacier National Park. We found that many of our pictures showed mountains with their peaks in the clouds. What we could see was marvelous so I know the rest would be grand too.The Visitor Center is atop the Continental Divide, and from there access is available to the Highline Trail, known for wildflowers during the summer. Access for other trails is there also. The Visitor Center is open mid-June to mid-September and is staffed with helpful rangers and several exhibits. There is also a gift shop. The restrooms are nice and very welcome. We had hoped to enjoy a picnic lunch we brought with us to eat there, but this area is also known for high winds, and this day the wind was frigid. We ate in the car and enjoyed the view from inside. Food service is not available here. There is what seems like a lot of parking, but it is often difficult to find an available place, as this is a busy area.

The Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden is a picturesque outdoor space that seamlessly blends Canadian and Japanese landscaping styles, featuring water elements, forests, and meadows. Located adjacent to Henderson Lake Park in Lethbridge, this garden was designed by an architect hailing from Osaka and built by artisans from Kyoto as a symbol of the enduring friendship between Japan and Canada. Visitors can enjoy strolling through the serene surroundings or partake in cultural events such as tea ceremonies, Sumo Sumo Sundays or yoga classes.

I have to say this is most amazing garden Ive seen in Canada. it very well represent Japanese garden design cues. The little streams and the little temple, plus some bonsai. really is very relaxing while walking through the garden. The pavilion will held different event by weekdays and weekends. our today Monday is showing the Japan martial arts. We so pleasing can find here and it all worth the price. 5 star recommend

What a wonderful afternoon we spent meandering through the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden. No rush! We took it slow in a zen like fashion. The beautiful scenery enticing us to sit and relax. Listening to the water falling and making it's way through the garden. With our entrance fee we received a choice of strawberry or mocha cookie with mocha iced tea or orange juice. Very yummy! If you stop in Lethbridge, definitely go check this out!! On the way put we checked the gift store! Lots to see and buy 🙂

Great Japanese garden! Cool attractions to do if you are in Lethbridge. We took the annual place cause it is worth it when you are a family. Otherwise I find it's a little expensive for just one visit. I recommend to visit in spring and autumn.

Very peaceful and beautiful walk, very reasonably priced. I look forward to their new building being completed and going back to check that out!!Advertised guided tours and were short staffed the day we went so no guided tours, that's the only reason they lost a star. There was a wedding there the day we went and that was pretty cool to see all set up, it was mostly unintrusive to our experience and they were also respectful. To the newly weds Congrats!

Zen garden. Staff is super friendly and garden is well maintained. A good 2 hour drive from Calgary. Best time to visit is from 1st week of June to Mid August. Also has water park and a lake adjacent to it. Only takes an hour to get complete tour. Tea ceremony is performed on Sundays (though not sure).

Pratik G — Google review

Nice enough gardens, but veri lacking in colors. For the admission cost, we were disappointed. If it weren't for the small drumming show we would have been gone in less than 30 minutes. And the rules are a little ridiculous. Don't walk on the grass and rocks. YOU MUST STAY ON THE PATHS . They need to improve the scenery a little.

Bob T — Google review

Garden was nice but coming from Calgary after a 2 hour drive I would say it’s not worth the trip. We bought the 2 ticket package with the cookie and drink included which was also nothing special. Staff was nice but Garden was small and not much to see/do.

Batul C — Google review

Such an amazing garden. We walked out of there feeling relaxed, serene, calm and mellow. The tea ceremony was a delight to watch with lots of interesting history. This garden was designed beautifully and worth the small admission fee. This is not a botanical garden tho. The trees, landscape and water features are gorgeous and just to sit and listen and go through the garden slowly and experience the hide and reveal aspects is fun.

Greg C — Google review

The gardens were beautiful!I took more videos then pictures and am unable to upload them.Everything was very well maintained. The trees and bushes were well groomed and soo cute!Make sure you stay on the path and don't pick up the rocks. The staff was very friendly.Would love to come back in different seasons of the year to see the leaves change to fall colors.

The perfect place for a staff Christmas party and then grab a hot chocolate to go see the lights. The drummers were excellent too! Fun to ring the bell. There needs to be a bench or two where people can stop and rest as people in our group had mobility issues but still loved the walk.

Quick and easy to check out, wouldn't take more than an hour, but you will never want to leave the place. Its beautiful, calm and refreshing. Well maintained and worth a visit. Tickets are cheaper after 5 pm and please note that the tickets are sold in the visitor center located outside the garden. There is a bell which you can ring. The staff are really friendly. Rest rooms are located in the tea house.

Always a delight to visit the gardens. This year we took part in a Sake Tasting (highly recommend) and enjoyed the festival of lights. There's a great gift shop on site.

P K — Google review

I had a great visit early in the morning when there was only staff there. I would highly recommend visiting at an off-peak time. The garden is small but peaceful and very green. It would not be the same experience if busy. Despite a miscommunication in ticket prices by the ticket staff, I had a good visit and would come again. The operations manager was friendly and helped clear up the issues by email. Do ring the bell, it is surprisingly easy to do so and create a loud sound. Very fun.

John B — Google review

We enjoyed the serenity of the gardens as they were meant to be serene. The walk along the paths and the trees were very relaxing. We went through the building on site and a young lady Noreve took the time to help us make origami birds. She also explained to us that if you make one thousand of the birds you get good luck and happiness. While we were there we got to write down a wish on a piece of paper and it was tied to a tree. We are planning another visit but either in the spring when the trees are blooming or the fall when the trees change their colours. Otherwise an enjoyable visit.

Two Medicine Lake is a beautiful and serene alpine lake located in the heart of Glacier National Park. The scenery is stunning and the opportunity to take in breathtaking views of the mountains is simply unbeatable. With hiking trails, a campground, and boats that can take you around the lake, there's plenty to do here whether you're looking for a day trip or an extended stay.

Beautiful lake in east glacier national park. Parking is free and easy to find. There are trails for good and easy hikes nearby. General store is also easily accessible. There is a boat rental with plenty of boat options and boat tours available till 4pm.

Vishwa S — Google review

Glacier National Parks secret little treasure! 🤫This part of the park is underrated and under visited. Lots of great trails to hike and even offers boat tours around the lake in summer or canoe and kayak. It is beautiful here in any season and one of my favorite parts of the park with some of my favorite trails. The road to Two Medicine is closed in winter and spring making it great for cross country skiing then biking after it’s been plowed. Summer and fall are good for hiking and it averages about 10° cooler than the west side of Glacier.Stop by Running Eagle Falls on your way to the Lake for an easy trail to a beautiful waterfall at all times of the year.Hike Scenic Point for some great views of the Two Medicine Lake area. You don’t even have to go all the way to the top and you’ll probably see big horn sheep.Take a day to do Dawson/Pitamaken loop from the campground for incredible summit type views of valleys, lakes, and smaller mountains.Take a day and hike around the print of the lake and branch off on many side trails leading to several waterfalls.Take a short hike to Paradise Point for a picnic or beautiful sunset.

The serenity of Two Medicine Lake will spellbound you. This side of glacier NP is not as crowded as all other parts of Glacier. Tourist do not come here so much so lot of peace and quiet. The water is very calm and you can see in the pictures the reflection is so beautiful. We kayaked on this lake due to my son’s insistence but we do not regret it at all. One of the best experiences we had in Glacier NP

I took a family of six on the boat ride on Two Medicine Lake for only $85. Is an excellent value!I wish we had known that they would drop us off at the other end of the lake. We would have done the hiking trail if we had known ahead of time. Even if you're not hiking, the boat ride is incredible. The boat is almost 100 years old but is pristine and recently restored. The sliding windows made it easy to take photographs. Our captain, was a young lady in a early 20s, who allowed us to spend time at the front of the boat taking pictures! She was very knowledgeable about the lake, the boat, and the history of the area. She even had a few good jokes! If you found this review helpful, please hit the like button!

Beautiful! Fun to swim. Very windy the day we were there, but what a nice walk to the closevy peninsula on a private less windy beach.

One of my favorite sport in Glacier Nationalpark. All hiking trails around are great and the boat ride is worth it , you learn so much !

More R — Google review

Awesome scenic place close to the east entrance. There are a lot of campgrounds and picnic spots. There are some quiet fishing spots. People can take the boat ride tour which has a 45 person capacity but you have to reserve your place asap. There are kayaks and other motor boating options too. A lot of natural trails and hikes are there too which are moderate to difficult. If you go for hiking during the summer take a bug spray or repellent.

Nature & Parks

Dinosaur Provincial Park is a sprawling natural area located 48km northeast of Brooks, Alberta. This UNESCO World Heritage site boasts a wealth of dinosaur fossils, with more than 150 full skeletons having been uncovered here. The park offers a variety of Interpretive Tours for visitors to learn more about the geology and wildlife in the area, and even discover some dino bones themselves.

Super cool place to check out if you’re in the area! A lot of people recommended getting a tour and I’m sure you learn a lot more that way but it’s possible to go without. You can drive or walk the ring road, we chose to walk. Such a unique location in Alberta!

Amanda L — Google review

Amazing sites. The fact that there is a desert type area in the same province as mountains is crazy. Lots of different trails to walk down. We couldn’t find one that was accessible with a stroller so I recommend a hiking backpack if you have a child of that size. We did two different trails. Neither were hard, some stairs involved. There are wildlife warnings posted around. Bring a hat and water. It is like a desert dress for the season. This park has different point you can drive to, to look at fossils or different trail accesses. There is one cafe in the park but they have a decent amount of options. The visitors centre is great for learning for all ages. Also there is a great look out point right before entering.

Beautiful and unique experience! A true treasure of a park. I learn something new each time I go. Has a great family friendly campground with an opportunity to camp right in the midst of the badlands. Our kids really enjoyed the interpretive shows at the amphitheater in the evening. Worth the trip.

Step into a journey through time at this breathtaking gem of a park. With its unparalleled landscape, the park offers a one-of-a-kind setting for exploration. Discover stunning rock formations and diverse trails, each revealing a unique piece of history. Whether you're a nature lover or a history enthusiast, this park promises a beautiful and unforgettable experience.

Hamaz K — Google review

if your into dinosaurs, history and an unusual landscape you must check this place out. i camped out here in my van and went on some really interesting walks learning about the history that happened..bring mozzie spray, the bugs get bad just at sunset.you can book tours here as well.looking forward to coming back here one day and doing a tour to find some Dino bones.

Very interesting place to visit. The drive from Calgary is quite dull, but still worth the effort. The visitor center has an interesting little museum and the stuff is very friendly.Even if there is no availability for the guided tours, the place is really nice to visit just for the views and hikes. The hikes have information panels along them, so you'll get to learn a lot.

Jaime R — Google review

You can’t go wrong with this park especially at sunset. This place is so neat.During the summer though it can get very hot so make sure you have lots of water, electrolytes, sunscreen and a hat.

This place is super awesome! The landscape is incredible and the weather was perfect. We did the Fossil Safari tour with Dylan and found a bunch of fossils. Our kids loved it and Dylan was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Would highly recommend.

One of my absolute favorite places in Alberta. Camping here is amazing. Had the pleasure of camping here with some of the most amazing company, wandered, biked and enjoyed the most incredible scenery I've seen. Managed to be there during the March 10th aurora. Can't wait to come back.Family friendly, quiet, amazing scenery. What more could you ask for?

Stu K — Google review

This is a awesome place to visit. Camp ground is well laid out and clean. There is also a Cafe to get food. We'll worth the visit.

Geoff M — Google review

This place has a beautiful landscape. I loved it. The photos don't show the beauty as it deserves and it is totally underrepresented. Highly recommended. You feel that you are in Arizona or Nevada not Alberta!

Sara J — Google review

Awesome park to visit if you are willing to take a detour around calgary. It's about 30-45 minutes away from hwy 1, so if you are looking for a scenic pit stop, this is worth the detour. They have washrooms and a cafe down at the campground. They also have a nice drive path to the view points / dinosaur bones, so you don't have to do a whole hike.I was doing a road trip to Calgary and decided to take a detour, which was worth it.

Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta is an incredibly beautiful masterpiece of Nature and the Creator of the World! A large, beautiful natural park with real dinosaur bones. An interesting place to visit for absolutely everyone who loves and appreciates nature in its pristine form.

Beautiful park with lots of family friendly hikes. The landscape and the views are incredible and second to none. The campgrounds are very nice and well maintained.

Tarun S — Google review

Couldn’t believe that I’ve lived in Alberta for 32 years without visiting Dinosaur Provincial Park. The landscape is breathtaking. Keep your dogs leashed and be careful where they are walking- there are scorpions, rattlesnakes, and so many cacti! Bring them lots of water because it gets hot and there is not a lot of shade on some of the hoodoo hiking trails. The dogs loved the hikes by the river best because there is plenty of shade from the trees. The John Ware cabin is so neat. I had no idea it was there so it was a special surprise to be able to go in and learn about him and his influence on Alberta’s ranching history. Check for hours the cabin is open for viewing. The camp site was well maintained. We stayed at a site closer to the stream. Glad we did because there are trees and shade there. Also lots of deer running around that side of the campground! The other side closest to the hoodoos are quite exposed to the hot sun and less private. Lovely to have the little cafe there. So much to do here. We spent one night here. Get there early so you have lots of time to explore. Definitely wake up early to hike a short 10-15 mins to watch the sunrise up on on the hoodoos. Also very cool to see the dinosaur bones. They offer interactive tours. We did a self tour because we had the dogs with us. Lots of hiking trails. We didn’t have enough time to hike them all. Definitely bring bug spray. The white, tiny, sand flies (?) are worse than the mosquitos. The dogs were so bothered by them. Once we got a fire going, the sand flies and mosquitos were no longer an issue.

Rhonda — Google review

I arrived at around 10am. There was no one in the parking and rest area overlooking the "bad lands" formations. It was so peaceful, serene, and quiet, except for the sound of the wind and birds: I love it. I recommend this moment of solitude before descending into the valley to stop off at the visitor's centre and going on the hiking trails or driving the dirt road loop. I need to go again. The day I went was after a period of rain, so the hiking trails were somewhat slippery, especially on the sedimentary rock formations.

Omaa C — Google review

Best place to rest and get away from the daily grind. It always feels like I've landed on another planet. The fact that cell connection is bad makes it even easier to disconnect. 😊

Gianetta H — Google review

This was our second time here. We really love this park. One of my favorites! The staff are friendly, and the facilities are clean. There is a small store, takeout counter, and fire wood for purchase.Highlight is the scenery and hiking available, there is a lot to see. Dogs are welcome, on-leash.

Ricci C — Google review

We drove here from Drumheller to go on the fossil safari. We met the tour guide at the museum, boarded the bus, and drove to a protected site that is not open to the public to look for fossils. The landscape is otherworldly, it was as hot as the sun, and my kid still wants to be a palaeontologist - he LOVED it. Money and time well spent.

Jennifer B — Google review

Such a cool place!! Had a great time, only stayed 2 nights but we caught the meteor shower (august) there were lots of flies and wasps. Also there is a store and cafe with a decent menu. Breakfast options as well as lunch and dinners

Obsidian G — Google review

This is an amazing park to visit. The camping is great. It's family-friendly with a playground as well. There are on-site showers, and the bathrooms are all recently renovated and clean. The views and surroundings are like nowhere else in Alberta. Such a gorgeous place.

Amanda — Google review

This place made me feel like a kid again, forgot how much I loved Dinasours. Can't wait to go back for more hiking trails . Pet friendly too.

OuZi — Google review

We signed up a hoodoo / dinosaur fossil photography tour. Indeed there are so many fossil pieces. This is indeed one of the most hoodoo viewing places and such close that you can take photos on every step of the way! And since this is a dinosaur park, we saw many small fossils of dinosaur bones, and other stuff. Do search online for similar tours, worth every minute and every cents. This tour is the only opportunity takes visitors into the restricted areas for much more to see and observe. 2023 is the first time this kind of tours open to the public, we are fortunate to be the first group going into there. Driver and tour guide (forgot her name) is extremely knowledgeable and friendly.Learned so much from her. Very lucky.

Ghost town

Sights & Landmarks

Hiking area

Garnet Ghost Town is a well-preserved gold-mining town from the 1890s, featuring compact log cabins with period furnishings. More than a dozen buildings have been preserved in a state of "arrested decay", providing visitors with an authentic glimpse into the gold rush days when cities were built quickly and vanished just as fast. The ghost town has over 25 buildings to explore, and informational placards are available throughout the site.

Great ghost town, well preserved, and one of the best in the state.. Tons to see and there are placards around the town, explaining what this once lively mining town was like. There are over 25 buildings in the ghost town. You are free to roam around and explore the buildings and town. Depending on the time of year, the 10 mile or so dirt road may be like an amusem*nt ride with the washboard roads.

H. F — Google review

Well worth a visit. Plan on at least an hour or two. Once you start exploring you won't want to stop. Be sure to stop by the visitor center for some good information. Remember to buy something and/or make a donation to help preserve this special place. And leave my big chair alone! If you see the chair, you'll know which one I'm talking about.

Lance J — Google review

It was an adventure to get there. The 200 route is smoother but if you are coming from the east, longer. We came through the rough ( bear gulch and cave gulch) and left on 200. Both are beautiful. The roads are one lane and pretty rough. We were able to do it with a front wheel drive vehicle so 4x4 is not necessary, but follow the signs. It was super tight when we met a car coming in the opposite direction but we were able to squeak by. The town is fun and has a beautiful setting. Some buildings are pretty rough and some have been fixed up a little. Well worth the adventure!

Mary O — Google review

If you want a "real" ghost town experience, this is for you. This town is well preserved and mostly abandoned with cool artifacts and wonderful structures. You can almost feel the presence of the past around you without crazy tourist traps etc. Just watch the road, come in via Dublin Gulch and Route 200.

Zachary H — Google review

Great experience. Love to see historic towns like these. The scenery around was beautiful as well. Pack a lunch and drinks when you go there. Also, be careful on the gravel road, especially in a small car.

Paul K — Google review

Been here twice now. Well kept and rather secluded location. Both times I went there was only one other group of visitors. Unfortunately, today the doors to the main buildings (hotel, general store and speakeasy) were locked but we were still able to go into the miners' cabins. This is worth the visit, just be careful on the road up as it is very winding and it can be difficult to see other cars on the curves.

Harry D — Google review

This was a really fun detour on our trip. The roads were a little rough but was able to make it there in a sedan. The buildings are really cool to look at and the staff there are super fun to talk to. Might be a bit concerned with some of the wood in the buildings, I can see it becoming a safety issue in the future. Overall fun experience I would recommend stopping here

Nena — Google review

Coming from 200 the gravel road wasn't an issue with our full size rental car. Really neat place to walk around and explore. The information placards and the visitors guide were very detailed about the history of the mining and the town. It was a very fun way to spend the morning.

Megan V — Google review

Great stop for a day trip! We had so much fun exploring this little town, it is very well maintained and clean with info posted about each structure. The downside was definitely the service and maps, we did end up with maps taking us down a dead end park road and getting lost for nearly 2 hours. Definitely map the trip there and to the next destination before you go while you have good service!

Miranda F — Google review

Well kept buildings and an informative brochure to guide you through it! Beautiful area but low riding vehicles not recommended. Great handicap parking spots available.

Kathleen P — Google review

We took Bear Gulch Road to get there. Thankfully, we have a Jeep, and we enjoyed the rugged drive. The road out to hwy 200 was a much smoother experience. The grounds and buildings were well maintained. Nice little visitor center and brochures available, even placards at many of the buildings providing its historical significance.... nice to see school buses with kids learning our past.

Chuck T — Google review

Awesome town. I would not attempt in 2wd or a car. Last section of the road had some good size ditches. Road was pretty sketchy in Dec with snow and ice.

Jason O — Google review

Beautifully preserved ghost town! You can even go inside the buildings, and some have multiple levels. The signage at each building provides great context that brings the character of the town to life. We came in from MT-200. The road up was pretty easy even though you gain a lot of elevation. We visited all the buildings in an hour and a half, but there are more trails in the area to explore. Bring cash to pay the entrance fee.

Ana A — Google review

Such a sense of gratitude for those responsible for preserving our history and especially to the extent of dedication taken here at Garnet Ghost Town. Here you get an authentic interpretation of how an 1800s Old West Mining town could have looked and what life might have been like for these folks. Several well preserved buildings and a treasure of antiques from that period. I especially liked the Wells Hotel and Kelly's Saloon. Absolutely fantastic and worth every effort to see this Montana Treasure.

Herbert H — Google review

Amazing ghost town nestled on the top of a mountain. Well preserved and documented. Plenty of information plaques and most buildings have original furniture and items. Some buildings can be rented in the winter months too.Note: entering from the north side is much easier than from 90. Driving in from 90 involves a steep rocky mountain pass that may be a little too much for a sedan or those afraid of heights

BezikP51 — Google review

Such a cool historical place! I think people from MT can sometimes forget we are surrounded by history. It is easy to get to, but there is some dirt road driving. Easy walking, and interesting sites.

Chantelle F — Google review

Beautiful spot & we’d definitely go again!! Absolutely no signal on the way up, so be sure to load map before heading there. Not a whole lot of signage. Hwy 200 is the best route to go. It’s a beautiful drive & room for 2-way traffic. The other route was totally harrowing! 😳

Mine

Sights & Landmarks

Gem Mountain Philipsburg is a popular destination for gem enthusiasts, offering the opportunity to mine for local sapphires. Located just outside of Philipsburg, Montana, this attraction allows visitors to wash and sort through gravel in search of precious gems during the warmer months. Additionally, Gem Mountain has a year-round gift store in Philipsburg where visitors can continue their sapphire mining experience indoors.

My sister, her 3 kiddos and I had an amazing time! We had so much fun sorting through the rocks to find sapphires and every time we did it made our day. The people were very friendly and helpful and made it even better. Thank you Gem Mountain for a great experience!

The mining itself was incredible. Something that I will always remember. The employees were very friendly and helpful. The store was also nice-kept and dog friendly.

Kaylee T — Google review

I have been coming here for 5 years and have never been treated so poorly. At 3pm I was put on a waiting list to have the stones looked at, at 5 pm they close and would not look at my stones. We were only here for 1 night. I'm stuck with stones, $45 of nothing. It's not worth your $45. Avoid doing business here

Renee J — Google review

Mining for sapphires is so much fun. we got a few that were larger than 2 carats, We need to send them in to have them heat treated. I highly recommend either going to the mine or buying a box from them to go through!

Had so much fun, Travis was incredibly helpful and has such a great sense of humor!! Thank you for the recommendation of the scenic drive, my husband and I had the best adventure today. Gem Mountain is a must visit!!

Sarah L — Google review

I love going in to Gem Mountain! Staff are friendly and helpful, sifting the gravel to find little treasures is relaxing. Leaving with those treasures feels therapeutic. Definitely recommend

Shandee V — Google review

We bought two buckets of gravel for $40 each to sort through and found several cuttable stones. Our second bucket had an unusually high amount of sapphires, so be aware that your mileage may vary. They charge reasonable prices and make it straightforward to find sapphires. It was absolutely thrilling to find gemstones. The gravel was raw, muddy, and brown at first, not loaded with polished stones like some tourist destinations do to make people feel special. The way the gravel is sorted by the attendants pushes almost all of the sapphires to the top of the gravel pile when the sieve is flipped onto the table. This makes for a great experience, because multiple sapphires are usually visible before starting the longer part of the hunt.If you'd like your sapphires/garnets cut, they are currently experiencing a one year wait because of how many customers get in line.

Bayard L — Google review

Loved the experience! It was so fun! Take your mom she will have a blast.

Visited this store very much by accident and very happy about that. Rock and Gem stores are by far my favourite and Gem Mountain did not disappoint. Prices were about par, but they have a great selection of unique items.

Talk about addictive. Digging through dirt @ our age is just good clean fun. We ordered some of ya'lls buckets of dirt and we are on a steep learning curve before our actual arrival in the Big Sky.. Sitting on the Mexican Border sifting thru all this rock is nothing short of just a blast! Still have a few lbs to go through but I'm pretty sure we will order more before we get there. I guess it's kinda like gambling @ a casino without the second hand smoke! Just the luck of the draw..Plotted. Oumuamua. Beep.

We stopped here on our road trip and it has been one of my kids favorite places. The cars were really cool and there were a lot of them. After we toured the cars we went to the prison and my teenagers absolutely loved it. You get to wonder around throughout the whole thing without being bothered. It made it so we didn't have any pressure and could play stupid games. The staff was great and the town is fun too, if you are thinking about stopping it is worth it.

Marshall Z — Google review

So much to see here. You could spend a full day between the two attractions. The auto museum has way more vehicles than I could have ever imagined to find in this small town. Really pleasantly surprised!Looks like there was some recent damage to the ceiling and some of the cars had obvious water marks from the damaged ceiling.Still though, it didn't take much away from the experience. The prison was really cool, Tons to see and explore. It's laid out really well and in great shape.

Brian M — Google review

What a fantastic museum! We were passing through, and arrived kind of late, but were delighted to learn that our admission is good for up to a year, so we can come back and finish the rest, so long as we keep our receipt! Was mostly excited about the prison portion (which was great) but was so pleasantly surprised by the auto museum. You really do need to spend at least half a day here, but with their extended admission, this works great. Can't wait to return to attend the other attractions we didn't get to see this time (Yesterday's Playthings, Frontier Montana, etc.). Also, we were eligible for a discount, which was so greatly appreciated. Can't wait to come back!

Stephanie B — Google review

The auto museum was absolutely amazing. Beautiful cars from early 1900s to current. There are many rare cars to see. 100's of beautiful restored cars. Highly recommend this auto museum. The prison museum was very interesting to see. On display is barbaric old dental and medical tools they used back in the day. Very crazy to see how they handled prisoners so many years ago. This is a very eerie place.

Jill B — Google review

Looks like a super cool place with lots of things to do. It was closed when we got there.(January 2022) It seems to be a good thing to do in a town where "there is nothing to do" we stopped on a road trip and were sad that it was not open. Sign said their season begins Feb 4th.We still walked around the building and enjoyed the architecture they've added. There seems to be some kind of fair ground right next to it too. It's probably where they hold city events.Parking was very very unclear. We might have parked in a field, I have no idea.Overall, I'd love to visit again when it is open if we are ever going through town.

Sara S — Google review

The automotive museum is very good. A great collection of cars from every era. Many of them are fairly rare to see. The collection is much larger than I expected. If you are a car person, you should plan your trip through this area to allow you to stop, you will be glad you didThe prison is eye opening. If you have never been in one, you should see it here where they let you leave. You do not want your first tour to be a permanent one haha.

Hypur P — Google review

This is a must see. So many cars and the self guided digital audio tour is great for the prison. Plan on spending at least 3 hours here.Bonus keep your receipt and you can come back for another visit within a year for free.Visit the antique shop across the road. It’s the home of the warden and a super cute shop. The inmate hobby store across the street is also amazing.

Whitney B — Google review

We used to ask Grandma if she went to college. She said she graduated from MSP, a private girls school out west. Little did we know her alma mater was the Montana State Penitentiary in Deer Lodge. What an amazing place. The car museum goes on and on with a collection of cars that has to be valued in the millions. The old prison grounds are interesting and the buildings are spooky yet give a real sense of what it must have been like inside. The self guided tour had plenty of info and stops with unbelievable and very interesting facts. Bring the family and check it out. As for grandma, she wouldn’t get out of the van while the family saw the sites. She said she wasn’t going back behind those walls. Unreal. Anyway, check it out. Btw, I bet many came to know Jesus in the little chapel there. Pretty cool and Jesus does save. From behind bars to eternity, I can’t imagine!

Q W — Google review

This place is a really cool stop you might otherwise overlook. It has an old prison, hundreds of amazing cars from the 1900s-1970s, and an old toy museum. You gain access to all of this with one admission ticket sold at the prison gift shop, which is good for a 2nd visit within one year. The prison is cool to walk around, and the ghost/paranormal crowd seems to especially dig it. The car museum is amazing, there are so many old, expensive and rare cars in there! I really liked the toy museum, make sure to check out the miniture train exhibit. The caretaker was very kind and sweet.

Jamez — Google review

Love this place. Never thought I'd say that about a prison. But there is so much history here and I went with my husband a few years ago and again just a few weeks ago. I love that we can go into the different cells and offices and see what it was like.

Mynameis N — Google review

This was a fun experience. This prison is old, not maintained, and pretty cool. They offer military discount on admissions tickets. The tickets get you into all the museums. There is a car museum, old vintage logging, mining museum, WW2, old toys, hobby craft, art and pen museum. There are also some old trains to see, a pinic area, old jail, blacksmith shack, log cabin, schoolhouse, carriage house and antique stores.

A P — Google review

It's a very educational place for everyone especially the Montanians. This is where you will learn about the prison history and the prisoner's life. It's worth to see. I've been there on Halloween month. The staff decorated the place in a spooky way! I was so scared! They did a great job!

Wonderful museum complex just off the highway in Deer Lodge. We were just passing through on the way to Glacier NP and had a little time on our hands. The prison is large and clearly laid out. The displays are very interesting. The attached car museum is wonderful. My husband and I found both our first cars in there. It was quite a fun afternoon. The ticket price includes a second visit, which we plan on using next week to visit the museums across the street of toys and WWII vehicles.

Tina H — Google review

Amazing value! Your ticket to this museum also gets you entry to several others and one revisit for up to a year. The gift shop is very nice, reasonably prices. The staff are friendly, and the tour was excellent. We will definitely take advantage of that revisit! Considering the value you get, the 18.00 adult admission is a real bargain :-).

Eva L — Google review

Broken Wings Paranormal (found on YouTube) did an overnight investigation from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. We have investigated other prisons and we are very impressed with how clean this prison is. We loved how easily accessible the building's are, and the fact they're far enough away from each other that we had no issues with interference of sounds from the other buildings or outside. It was sad we weren't able to go into the theater. Hopefully, the investigation fees will help more funds go to supporting the renovation of that building. We would love to come back, especially after the incredible paranormal evidence we captured here. We highly recommend this location for other groups, and even individuals who want to take part in a tour.

SUZIE Q — Google review

This was a great stop!!! The kids didn't want to stop initially, but ended up enjoying reading the plaques and learning about what was made here.We were quite humbled seeing the missing children in the law enforcement museum section, but it opened for a discussion topic that we don't talk about enough, and they wanted to understand more.

Tami A — Google review

I visited the Old Montana Prison back in July of this year. I went on the self guided day tour, along with the overnight paranormal tour. The staff both day and night time guides are very friendly, along with being informative with knowledge and stories of the prison. I want to note that ticket price is a good value that provides admission into several other museums besides for the prison.

Museums

The World Museum of Mining in Butte offers a glimpse into the city's extensive mining history. Visitors can explore a recreated 1890s mining town, take mine tours, and discover exhibits on mining tools. The museum is an excellent place to learn about the copper mining industry that once thrived in Butte. In addition to the Mineral Museum and Trolley Tour of Uptown Butte, visitors interested in local history should consider adding this attraction to their itinerary.

This is another must-do adventure if you’re in the Butte area! It is a very well put together museum and has exhibits of what a mining town would have looked like back in the 1800s plus actual copper and silver mining artifacts and platforms. There are a lot of exhibits to see covering a large outside area. There is also an actual old mine that you can tour, but that does require a separate ticket and is usually booked-up several days in advance, so it’s best to reserve your spot online. The mine tour takes you down about 100 feet into the mine, and is an exceptional experience and learning adventure. It is great for kids also, but not small children. It also is a fairly steep decline into the mine, and is pitch dark. They do provide you with helmets that have attached lights on them, but this was a fully working mine and is currently used to train mining students at Montana Tech. While they do everything to keep you safe, there are a lot of obstacles, and you have to be focused and have your wits about you. I would not recommend the mine tour if you’re claustrophobic or have other health ailments. It is also about 45° once you get down to 100 feet. But there is still plenty to do and see even if you don’t do don’t mine tour. They also have a lot of events going on during the summer, so check their website. The museum is also getting ready to start their haunted mine tours, so look for events and details on their website.

Such a great tour with Ken! It was very nice going with a small group where Ken made us all feel welcome and answered all our questions. The amount of history stored on this site is like anything I’ve ever seen. The fact that there is still work being done in the mines and the college next door makes this site even more interesting.

Bobbie N — Google review

I love this museum. This was my second time visiting and I loved getting to share it with my family. This is a great stop for kids with so much to look at, interact with, and just the immense amount of space it takes up. It takes a little over an hour (and thats with speed reading signs!). I have never done the actually underground tour but it's on my to do list now.

Victoria P — Google review

This is Avery nice history of mining in Butte. The pictures and donated memorabilia really helps show what life was like in a mining town. The town mock-up is fantastic at showing period prices showing invitation of the times. From dentistry to banking and everything in between. There is an actual mine tour, I would suggest calling ahead to get your times before you go. It was well worth the entry fee.

Michael — Google review

Great, knowledgeable guide who made the tour fun and quite interesting. Loved going down into the depths of the earth to experience what it was like to have be there. And the museum was set up very nicely with a great array of items and implements of how it was back then.

Ruth P — Google review

We passed through Butte twice on our way to Glacier National Park and coming back which was lucky for us as the mining tour is limited in numbers so we needed to book 4 days in advance. This tour is a gem, it is very authentic and down below earth and our guide Ken was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The tour inspired us to explore more and we visited The Archives Museum in The Historical District where again the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were delighted we spent some time in Butte.

John D — Google review

This was a fun place to go. There is an old time mining town to wander through. Kid friendly. There is an underground mining tour that is a lot of fun but I, personally, wouldn't take young children on it because of the steep grades and darkness of being underground. The only light is from the light on the hard hat everyone is wearing. At one point the light is turned off. This is a an excellent experience to see the reality of an old time mining town and experience a mine.

Lisa E — Google review

This was an interesting tour with a wonderful tour guide. Ken was very informative and funny. The tour was a good length and was well worth it. Get on Kens tour and you can’t go wrong.

Ashley S — Google review

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. She provided details and colour about mining history at both this mine as well as other mines in the area.Lots of buildings to view and walk around, plus an interesting display of different rocks and geodes. I particularly found the fluorescent rock display to be intriguing.

Phillip H — Google review

Very interesting, tons of history, lots to look at. Would've loved to do the underground tour but our kiddos were too small (we will have to come back!)Our 2yo and 4yo were kinda bored so I don't think I recommend this in general for their ages unless the museum were to open up a little kiddos hands on learning exhibit. But we loved walking thru the town and the seeing all of the old equipment. Definitely don't miss this stop in Butte!

This museum was awesome. We took the Underground tour and it was fantastic! Rick was so knowledgeable and he really wanted us all to have an enjoyable time. I learned so much!! Some remarkable people are restoring this wonderful piece of history! Great job staff and donors. You can be proud of this gem!!

Located on the far side of Montana Tech University, the World Museum of Mining is, hand’s down, a terrific place to learn about life in an 1800s mining town. The museum has brought in period buildings from all over, added local period pieces (whether saloon, apothecary, undertaker, and any of the dozens of other establishments) to make the town seem seamless. Most of the buildings had a QR code provided for obtaining additional information.Even before leaving the museum store where you buy tickets to either the above ground and/or below ground experience, you will learn much about mining in Montana. There also are a couple special exhibit rooms which were mostly from private collections (one being dolls and doll houses mostly related to early Montana life; the other minerals and rocks). The underground mine tour was led by Michael. He is well versed in the mining history of the area and was fully engaged in sharing what he knew. There is SO much to see. My photos are only a small portion of our time there. Plan to spend at least three hours (1.5 on the underground, and the same walking the property). For your convenience and comfort, there is a perfectly modern restroom facility.

Sue M — Google review

Highly recommend taking a tour of the mine! Very knowledgeable couple of guys. One worked as a miner in the 70s, and the other worked at a mine as well. They both had plenty of stories ranging from their own, to the stories of their fathers/grandfathers...What a cool little place. They did a great job of painting the scene of old school mining. Awesome, and tragic history

Dylan R — Google review

Great informative mine tours. Staff was very knowledgeable about the machinery in the mines, as well as their geology. I would definitely recommend getting your tickets for the tour at least a day ahead, as there are limited spots available. In addition, wearing a light sweatshirt is a good idea, because temperatures in the mine are about 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Wear close-toed walking shoes (it gets muddy). Amazing experience for families!

Anne F — Google review

This site is loaded with historical eye candy of all kinds. From the Mining operations to the reconstructed town site it was a fully immersive experience. Our tour guide Troy gave us a tour that made the experience of the miners and this unique Butte American community come alive for us. My perspective on this important and often overlooked part of our history was enhanced and I honestly got teary eyed with pride thinking about how hard those men worked to do such a dangerous yet essential job. Hands down one of the best Montana tourist attractions and that is saying something! Thank you Troy!!!

Rose G — Google review

Loved this place and stayed longer than I had planned because there is a lot to see! Entrance fee with the mine tour was just over 20 dollars. Recommend booking the tour ahead of time online. The tour of the mine was great! Been in many caves, but not a mine. There are no stairs, but it is sloped for the entire tour. You go down 100 feet while wearing hard hats with lights. Really cool experience. There is a little recreated town to walk through and it's interesting learning about the late 1800s to 1950s time-frame of a mining town. Recommend this place! And leave plenty of time so you're not rushed.

We went by on a Monday when the boat tours are not in service. I don’t know if it is worth the stop if you can’t go out in a boat. The view isn’t that spectacular just from land. Certainly pretty but not sure it’s worth going out of your way to see. Just FYI for those considering adding it to their road trip.

Megan M — Google review

The Gates of the Mountain boat tour is wonderful!!! We bring our assisted living residents over every summer from Butte, MT. Everyone that works there is so accommodating and helpful. Since we have such a large group, they assist us on and off the boat, deliver our food from the snack bar and carry our coolers. The information on the tour is fun and interesting. They are absolutely the BEST! We have never had a bad experience there. It is so wonderful to be able to provide such a great experience to our assisted living residents. Thank you!

Tonya K — Google review

The boat tour was absolutely beautiful!I'd definitely bring my parents, when they come to visit, if it's just a boat tour.I'm only giving 4 stars, because of the dinner, what we paid was not worth it, at all! $59 for a steak dinner.....I didn't get a steak, I got 4 thin cut strips of steak, some potatoes and a salad. My husband said the chicken w/ fettuccine was good....but again, not worth what we paid

Catholic cathedral

Sights & Landmarks

The Cathedral of Saint Helena is a gorgeous Catholic church built in 1914, with impressive twin spires that draw inspiration from Vienna's Votive Church. The stunning architecture is well-maintained, and the steeples tower into the sky while bells clang overhead. Visitors can't help but feel awed by the grandeur of God's glory within its walls. Even young children are enchanted by running around and exploring this amazing space.

Look I was not expecting to have a spiritual experience today. I came to town to visit the place that my family came from. But I didn't really have any idea what I was going to do when I got here. I saw this cathedral from a ways away and decided to check it out. As I got out of the car the bells in the tower began to chime. I claimed the steps hesitantly not wanting to interrupt anyone praying, but the room was empty. I stood in awe of the sight of this place. It took my words. My daughter had questions which I did my best to answer and when it came to the lit prayer candles. She wanted to do one. So together we lit one for our family which is no longer with us. And... It just hit me really deep. This place is a whole different thing, and it's beautiful

Michael C — Google review

Such a spiritual place with incredible craftsmanship. So happy we stopped for a visit. Would love to go to a service there.

Danielle R — Google review

Absolutely beautiful inside. The organ was playing while we were there. Definitely a site to see in person

Angela D — Google review

This is a beautiful cathedral outside and in. The detail of the church and stained class windows which tell a story are amazing. It reminds me of the beautiful churches in Europe. I sat there awe struck as I looked around and marveled at the Catholic tradition decorating this beautiful cathedral.

Beth K — Google review

Absolutely stunning gem of a church as beautiful as any European ones I've visited. Breathtaking just being inside, you can't help but to look up in awe and feel small amid the glory of God.Even our 17 month old seemed pretty impressed! We've *actually* never seen her have so much fun inside a building like that, she was so happy running around and giggling and looking around super excited, it must have seemed like a big fun house to her LOL we couldn't help but let her have fun while trying our best to maintain a respectful level of reverance 😆

Alejandra Z — Google review

As we drove up just to view from outside with the fall colors, the Bells were tolling. It was just magical. Sooo beautiful! I can't wait to see inside.

Neva L — Google review

Beautiful! A true monument of faith to Helena’s riches of the past. I was fortunate enough to attend a 7am mass. Entered the church in outside darkness and as the service proceeded, the sunrise illuminated the stain glassed windows.

K L — Google review

Incredibly beautiful, architecture old and very well maintained, easy to find as the steeples were almost to the sky, the bells were chiming as we walked up the stairs.

Vicki Z — Google review

Beautiful architecture, very well taken care of. The inside is clean and quiet

Anabel P — Google review

Beautiful church! Amazing architecture and art.

Jake R — Google review

I didn't expect to be so impressed! This has the feel of an Old World cathedral! There was music piped in that because of the speaker placement and the acoustics of the cathedral itself, made it sound like you were overhearing a rehearsal.

El — Google review

The stained glass is insane but upon entering the air was super thick and felt heavy. Off vibes in this place. Creeped my son out, not sure why but just a different feeling while walking inside it.. still breathtaking stained glass though

Jordan O — Google review

Museum

Sights & Landmarks

The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is a spacious museum with interactive exhibits, walking trails, and a theater for shows and ranger talks. Visitors can explore exhibits that follow the path of the adventurers, while friendly docents offer additional information beyond the displays shown on laminated maps. The center provides clean facilities including restrooms, outdoor gardens with signage for native plants, ample parking including handicapped parking. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate easy access to adjacent trails and views of the Missouri River.

Arguably the best part of this museum is the staff (the same does not apply to the gift shop staff … that was a bad experience) they were knowledgeable, fun, and really seemed to enjoy their jobs. Aside from the staff, the museum itself was well done. The exhibits were well explained and told the story of Lewis and Clark with clarity. One item of note, at the end of exhibits are a few cases of guns, go to that case and look at the top most gun at the front. That’s a replica of the repeating air rifle, a true marvel of engineering and what the Indians were shown as Lewis and Clark traveled. Imagine seeing a rifle that didn’t need gunpowder, was quiet when shot, and didn’t create muzzle flash. That’d be fairly amazing to see in a world of muzzle loaded weapons. Anyway, highly recommend place to visit.

Alain G — Google review

Had the entire museum to ourselves for two hours on a cold, snowy January day. Great family outing for kids 5 or 6+. Plenty of tactile displays, a unique journey along a carpeted “river”, and good reproductions make this a very interesting way to interact with history. It’s presented from Lewis and Clark’s perspective, but I thought it fairly well-balanced in respect to indigenous participation. Would definitely go back!

Kathrina R — Google review

This is the cutest place and definitely worth the visit. It seems to be run by the cutest retirees with a passion for educating others. My seven year old participated in the junior explorer scavenger hunt and it was a great way for her to engage in the museum and learn a lot! The exhibits are really well put together and very interactive. If the weather was nicer we would have checked out some of the trails. They looked beautiful though!

Shannon T — Google review

Clean and nice center with lot of informations. Very friendly staff. I spent a few hours here with my kids and they loved the photo hunt a lot. The exposition is well made and full of interesting things. It gives you a good feeling how that all was. Even for me and I’m from Germany. Nice place.

Mirko F — Google review

Nice center with pleasant staff. Clean place, clean bathrooms. The various displays appeared to display more of the positive side of the Lewis and Clark expedition(s), but kind of glossed over some of the "not great" aspects. I think it would have been beneficial to give more of an explanation of the not great aspects of the journey, the explorers' encounters with various Indian tribes, and treatment of women.Separately, there are nice walking paths outside, with nice views of the river. The cost I think is $8pp, unless you have a national parks pass (in which case, you'd get in for free). Military also get in for free.

Rachel B — Google review

Amazing place! It is full of history and great for all ages! Butler the Newfoundland dog makes it even better! He’s same breed of dog that Lewis and Clark took with them. We highly recommend it

Awesomism M — Google review

The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center is an amazing star in the crown of Great Falls. With so much information about this incredible journey, it is all put together in a highly comprehensive, and wonderfully interactive manner. Kids love all of the hands-on exhibits.

Elizabeth M — Google review

Friendly docents who are more than happy to share a little extra info beyond what you see on the map of displays. Laminated maps are disinfected after each use. Spacious theatre for shows and ranger talks throughout the day. Many interactive exhibits. If you have a National Parks Passport book, don't forget to get it stamped here! Talk a walk around outdoors to see the Missouri River. Easy access to adjacent trails.Large lobby, clean restrooms, bottle filler/water fountain, hand sanitizer stations. Outdoor gardens with signage for native plants. Ample parking, including handicapped parking.

Ryan R — Google review

We had a great time here. Our kids learned so much, heck we all did! Doing the Lewis and Clark bingo or activity book was fun and also helped you slow down and read stuff. I walked through here like 3 times. Free souvenir for completing it is pretty nice too, not cheap plastic stuff.

Visitors can explore the area's natural beauty by capturing photographs or videos while enjoying the serene atmosphere. Our first-time visit, awesome views, great place to see waterfalls, rock formations mountains, some wildlife, and tumbleweeds + crazy wind that NO hair spray will survive ! Bonus..check out the Missouri River in Montana. Check it out for yourself !

This is so worth coming to. So easy to park, entrance is free. Giant Springs is a treasure for the area, they attached fish hatchery is interesting and very quick to learn about how fish are spawned and then sent to various lakes and streams around Montana. The park is great for walking along Rivers edge it is paved and flat it is a beautiful walk good enough for people on walkers canes and wheelchairs all will have access to this incredible walk along the river. When's walking others happily greet you with a hello, it seems others in the area are so happy to be here. There are all kinds of birds in the area we saw seagulls pelicans and other Montana based birds. I highly recommend for anyone no matter if you're in good health or not so good health this is an easy place to come for a gentle walk.

BANGKOKBANKS — Google review

This place is gorgeous, and so peaceful. It’s one of the things I miss most about great falls. It’s even nice in the winter.

Austin — Google review

Great experience with Trout Hatchery. Learned that trout survive mostly on cold climate for it gets sunburn above 54 ° C. Saw the tree my son planted at this park. There's a crack in the rock, a brook opening that travels from the mountain. It's a fresh water but not advisable to drink since other animals thrive here. We just saw a beaver. Montana is known for its gusty ruthless wind for its proximity to Canada. Cold but worth the experience with nature. Next year we will visit during summer.

Regina — Google review

Awesome I love going here taking the family having outings going for walks fishing feeding the fish and barbecuing there’s a park for the kids and a place to relax is everything a family needs and what there isn’t you can bring

Ed D — Google review

An amazing place to bring your family. Spectacular views of the Missouri River. Visit a State Fish Hatchery on site. Nice walking trails along the river.

Ben M — Google review

Beautiful park. I visited in the winter which was still nice, but it looks much better in the summer. Small fish hatchery with trout. Lots of benches and trees.

Cory S — Google review

Moved here to Montana August 2021. Since living here I've been to Great Falls area twice to go to Walmart for my shopping and automotive service. This was my third time going to Great Falls so thought I'd check out all the cool things to do out in nature in the area for a full day. This place was absolutely gorgeous. Loved it. Took close to 100 combination of photos/videos while I was there. Then followed up by going to Rainbow Falls 1.1 miles from here and then in the opposite direction 4.5 miles to Black Eagle Falls. They were ok, nothing compared to this spring Park. Definitely will visit again now that I live in this beautiful state.

Candy B — Google review

It's a beautiful place, can take a nice walk, can take you (leashed) dog, fun for the family, lots of places to sit along the way and tables at times for eating or resting. It's quite lovely.

Leo V — Google review

Feeding the giant trout is awesome! The signs are very informative and the geology is very interesting to learn about. This is a great place for kids but not a good place for dogs.

Graham F — Google review

Beautiful park. The springs are colorful, clear, and just amazing. The hatchery is currently only partially open because of a parasite problem, but still is interesting and informative. The bird life around the springs is diverse and colorful. A definite must see in Great Falls.

Knights O — Google review

Beautiful little park. Nice way to spend a relaxing bit of time watching the river… not much to speak of beyond what it is. A lovely little park.

This park is a must see if you’re visiting Great Falls. From the springs to the long trail, all is beautiful to view. The park has restrooms, a vending machine to purchase drinks, and a leave one take one library. It is dog friendly. 10/10 Experience

Heather P — Google review

One of our favorite places to stop in Great Falls. We spent hours exploring and watching the springs break forth. Beautiful and historic site, a must stop if in the area, even in the winter.

N D — Google review

A beautiful spring, certainly unique, with an interesting historical reference through the explorers Lewis and Clark that provides a context we otherwise would completely lack! The attached fish hatchery is fun to check out, there are more things to learn about fish than probably most of us attempt to!I enjoyed what they had to share, feel like it motivated me to learn more!Wish I could swim in that spring! 🙂54F is pretty cold, but when it's 100F out it sure looks inviting! Not to be however. The river works!

Laine M — Google review

Nice walking path and liked if you wanted to hike

Joy W — Google review

Very nice walk. The trail is level and an easy walk to enjoy the surrounding scenery.

Kalwren42 — Google review

I didn't know there was a quiet peaceful place in great falls till my family and I went here. My son tried to get a blue crawdad but couldn't because the spring water was so cold lol. Great place to sit and have lunch and unwind. We got wonderful pictures and learned about the fish. Got to see Juniper, the rangers bull snake. We had a great time rolling down the grassy hills and watching people fish by the river. The restrooms were very clean, it was animal friendly and lots of picnic area.
